Youth Advisory Group Workshops for Young People Spaces are still open for YACWA's free workshops for young people on joining and working with Youth Advisory Groups (YAGs).
The youth-focused workshop, titled Everything You Need to Know About Youth Advisory Groups, is suitable for young people aged 12 to 25 who want to join a YAG or are already part of one. It explores skills you can bring to the group, what makes a great YAG and pitfalls to avoid and how to advocate to your organisation.
Both workshops include a youth panel where you will get to speak directly to young people who have experience on being part of a YAG. Numbers are limited, so bookings are essential. |

Voting Party 🥳
YACWA is proud to be working on Voting Party, an initiative in partnership with the Australian Electoral Commission. Voting Party is a campaign to encourage more young Australians to VOTE and WORK in the 2022 Federal Election. With more than 100,000 jobs available nation-wide and over 310,000 young Australians yet to enrol to vote, we are asking for the support of our network to connect young people with these employment opportunities and to vote in the election this year.
We are looking for organisations to share our materials, host focus groups with the young people you work with and share our survey on youth attitudes about voting and working in elections.

The National Anti-Racism Framework will guide anti-racism and equality by government, organisations, business, and communities. Supporting young people in their settlement journey Explore how to use the National Youth Settlement Framework in your work to support young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds. This practical one day training session will show you how to use the National Youth Settlement Framework (NYSF) in your work to support young people to reach their potential as active citizens in Australian society. The NYSF is an evidence-based national guide to good practice with young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds – and is the only one of its kind globally. With practical tools, including Self-Assessment Guides, and a range of useful resources, the NYSF is designed to equip policymakers and service providers with the skills and knowledge to best support young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds to thrive in Australia. Kaleidoscope Job Readiness Workshop Series for Migrant Women Kaleidoscope's Job Readiness Workshop Series for Migrant Women will boost your employability skills and confidence in job seeking. It is a 5-day workshop series designed to improve the employability skills of migrant women who have been affected by COVID-19. By the end of the program, you will become job ready, have boosted your confidence, have gained knowledge of job service providers and relevant tools that may assist you to find a job. This workshop is designed for women who have limited or no work experience in either their home country or Australia. It is also suitable for women who are transitioning to a new job/career or reconnecting to their career after a break (less than 5 years). Tell your Story Tell your story is a two day intensive performing arts course for young culturally and linguistically diverse people aged 14-17 years. Limited spots available. The course aims to provide a safe, open and inclusive space for CaLD young people to bring their unique experiences and backgrounds into the process of storytelling and performing. The course will facilitate artistic expression, confidence and participation in young people from diverse backgrounds in a nurturing environment so that each individuals' unique cultural identity is demonstrated through the performing arts. This course will be at no cost to students, removing the financial burden and creating the opportunity of a pathway for young people who show an interest in the performing arts to participate. The course aims to attract young people from diverse cultural backgrounds within the ages of 14-17 years of age who come from low-income migrant/refugee households. The CaLD LGBTIQ+ Support Group The LGBTIQ+ Support Group for people from a migrant or refugee background meets online every first Wednesday of the month. This group supports same sex attracted and gender diverse people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to discuss their mental health and wellbeing and develop a strong sense of belonging in the community. Often, gender and/or sexually diverse identities can engender conflict with cultural norms, doctrinal positions and family expectations and relationships. This group creates a safe space for individuals to talk through, share stories and offer reflections on intersectional and complex issues surrounding relationships, cultural traditions, and identity. Mental health support for culturally diverse communities Culturally Diverse Psychological Service – Life Without Barriers The Culturally Diverse Psychological Service provides short-term culturally appropriate and evidence based psychological counselling for Medicare card holders. The service is free and confidential and is available throughout the Perth metro area. You will be required to visit a GP to obtain a referral prior to your first session. Mental Health Access Service – Multicultural Futures The Mental Health Access Service have confirmed they have capacity to assist new clients from the Ukrainian community, and are happy for individuals to self-refer. Multicultural Futures’ services are for people from a migrant or refugee background across the Perth metropolitan area. They recommend any interested individuals check the website to speak to a Mental Health Advocate in their local area (as they operate all over Perth). MAITRI Mental Health Services – Multicultural Services Centre MAITRI professional mental health assessment, treatment and management; culturally and linguistically appropriate counselling; psycho-education and psychosocial intervention. Their services can be delivered in the client’s preferred language, or with the assistance of interpreters. Individuals can self-refer using the referral form available on the website. |

ServiceWA App Available to Download The ServiceWA app is a FREE mobile application provided by the WA Government to help connect with WA State Government services. Initially the ServiceWA app aims to assist the community during the COVID-19 transition, and aims to expand to include other services into the future. It is designed for Australian residents or citizens who live in WA or are regularly visiting WA. Download the ServiceWA app, as the SafeWA app will eventually become outdated. There is also translated advice. The ServiceWA app allows you to activate and access the following WA Government services in one place: - SafeWA –for individuals checking in at WA businesses, venues and events.

- G2G Pass – to access your travel passes when you travel into WA.

National Coronavirus Helpline – CaLD priority service A priority service within the National Coronavirus Helpline has been established to ensure culturally and linguistically diverse people have access to relevant information and assistance with finding vaccine appointments. Helpline call agents can provide COVID-19 information and help callers book their vaccination appointment. Translated resources can be sent to callers after the call by SMS in their language. Culturally and linguistically diverse people seeking to access this service should contact Translating and Interpreting Services (TIS) National on 131 450 and ask to be connected to the National Coronavirus Helpline. COVID health resources for WA's CaLD communities WA Health has developed a range of video and social media tiles to promote COVID-safe behaviours and COVID vaccination to WA’s CALD communities. The resources feature WA healthcare workers and community leaders delivering COVID health messaging in English and in other languages. The videos are available on the DoH Youtube channel. The social media tiles and other resources are available on the Health WA website. |

KickstART Festival Program Launch Our friends at Propel have just launched the program for KickstART, the annual arts festival created in collaboration with and for young people aged 12-26.
This year's program takes place online and in person, and includes puppetry workshops on puppetry, songwriting, Noongar language, community organising, HTML design and much more.

Financial Literacy for Refugee and Migrant Women The Financial Literacy for Women course is designed to help you manage your money while living in Australia. It is a free tailored e-learning resource designed to support migrant and refugee women in managing their finances. The course is available in English, Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Hazaragi, Karen, Vietnamese, Thai, Punjabi, Nepali, Korean and Dari and covers: financial systems, earning an income, budgeting, money relationships. |

Researchers at the Telethon Kids Institute, Curtin University and University of Melbourne are collaborating with the WA Department of Health to better understand how COVID-19 can transmit within Western Australia and CaLD communities specifically. Using detailed contact surveys and statistical modelling, they want to learn how COVID-19 spreads through a community like yours. They require your help by taking part in a quick 20- minute survey. Having CaLD voices represented in this survey will provide valuable input into this research. |
