Saguaro Set half

Hello all you astonishing subscribers and welcome to my July newsletter. I'm lucky enough to have another cruise coming up and knew that the Saguaro Set by the Friday Pattern Company was just made for cruising! I wasn't sure if I'd have enough time to get both parts done, so started on the trousers as I thought I'd get more wear out of them.

A MingMakesMistakes review post will follow, but my first two posts on this pattern involve sewing the buttonholes and fitting the trousers.

Buttonholes without the foot

There are two buttonholes for the waistband drawstring, and for some reason my buttonhole foot or machine setting wasn't working. After many failed practice attempts, I decided to go it alone with a normal zigzag stitch, and found that I actually liked the amount of control this gave. I put together a blog post with video that details the settings and technique.

Fitting the Saguaro trousers

This was the first pair of trousers I tried fitting. They were an easy one to start with given the elasticated waistband, and I used the Palmer/Pletsch tissue fitting method which worked well for me here. In my blog post I share photos of my toiles and thought processes as I went along, as well as a mistake I made!
