March Newsletter

Updates:

Beloved family. It has been almost exactly a year since the beginning
of the pandemic and Covid-19 is very much still here. As I write this,
my youngest daughter and I are back in quarantine as she has just
tested positive for the “Rona”.

While she doesn’t feel great, her symptoms are mild and I am beyond
thankful for all of the resources we have. Food, clothing, shelter,
medical care, and soon enough, access to a vaccine.

This is not the case for many. This is certainly not the case for the
women and children of the The Nachan Project.

Last week, however, because of You we were able to send in $578
USD worth of maize flour to help the women continue to feed
themselves and their children. 150 fellow humans will be able to eat
something.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

You may recall that throughout the past year we were occasionally
able to provide food for 500 people.

Allan Reighns, our Field Leader, joked recently that everyone in the
slums is a Nachan member they just don’t have t-shirts.
We do what we can...

Over the last month the team has been conducting psycho-social
assessments for each member as well as a larger needs based
assessment for the community.

In line with a sustainable development goals methodology we must
consider the very basic need for literacy not just for the children but
their mothers, as well as concrete skills training.

The women continue to ask for mindfulness practice and we are
committed to finding a suitable venue (one that won’t be torn down or
flooded at the whim of a slumlord or the rains) while also adhering to
Covid safety protocols.

In the coming months, the team and I will be embarking on a much
bigger fundraising campaign which will encompass all of the above
as well as continued humanitarian aid. It is my hope to be able to
return as soon as possible or “as conditions allow” to continue to
share practice and provide support for my sisters, the Nachan
team on the ground, and for my colleagues across East Africa.

Please consider supporting us and our work. If you cannot support
monetarily, please consider sharing this Newsletter, our social media
posts (follow @thenachanproject), tell your friends and family, or -
include us in Metta.

Connection is Key.

We suffer when we are disconnected and traumatic events, including
never ending poverty, much less physical or sexual abuse (which
arise because of a lack of resources) - literally tear our minds and
bodies apart from each other. That is what PTSD and CTSD look like.

Connect. Heal. Thrive. This is what we seek to offer.

And, also - May all Beings Everywhere Be Free from Pain and
Suffering and May Each One of Do Something About That.

Ous. Weebale. Namaste. Jah. Tashi Delek. Rock on.
