GREETINGS & NEWS

JULY 2019

#THEGREEN&YELLOWALIENLTD

Hello!

It has been five months since my last newsletter. I guess it no longer qualifies as an “almost-monthly” publication. But I have been busy!

Busy writing speeches about education inequality. Busy coordinating the scholarships for the 2019 RMC-SCBWI Letters & Lines Conference. And busy visiting schools (virtually) way down south, in Brazil.

I've been busy with good news I cannot share yet, and busy with news I could have shared a while ago, but am only now doing it…

I’d like to introduce you to THE GREEN & YELLOW ALIEN, Ltd.

And what better day to do it than on World UFO Day!? Yes; there is such a thing as a World UFO Day. And it is today: July 2nd.

Seriously, though, THE GREEN & YELLOW ALIEN, Ltd. is a literary studio I started to offer critiques, translations, newsletter development, and to book my own events. I found that, especially for events, having a limited liability company made a lot of sense. And, if I were going through all the trouble of starting a company to offer book events, why not offer other book-related services as well?

The company's website is very simple and easy to navigate. You will find all the information you need there. Go explore! And share the news!

#SAVETHEDATE

Save the date! My new book, LIA & LUÍS: MORE? MAIS!, illustrated by Giovana Medeiros, is coming out in the Fall of 2020. The title is part of a new series of books by diverse authors and illustrators, featuring diverse characters.

All stories in the series have a math component to them. The goal is to help diverse kids see themselves in the pages of the books and as part of a world in which math is integral (and fun).

The series is being published by Charlesbridge in partnership with the education non-profit TERC, and is funded in part by the Heising-Simons Foundation.

#SOCCER

If you love soccer, you are a happy camper right now... There's a lot going on!

Unfortunately, Brazil is already out of the FIFA 2019 Women's World Cup. But we are still competing for the 2019 Men's Copa América. Well, at the time I was writing this we were. (Big game today!)

Of course, you are probably cheering for the US anyway. Lucky you! The US Women's National Soccer Team is playing amazingly well. Today, the Americans play against England for a place in the final.

Oh, and the US Men's National Soccer Team plays tomorrow against Jamaica. They are in the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

No matter which championship you are watching (all three of them, hopefully), or which team you are cheering for, make sure you have THE SOCK THIEF: A SOCCER STORY by your side. Good luck!
