Stay Booked And Busy This Fall - With ASA Books

No Tricks, All Treats

While October makes its way out, ASA Books is gearing up for a November to remember. But before we say our goodbyes, we are grateful for how things went this month. This October, we were happy to get in our last few batches of vegetable donations to our local community garden's food pantry. We were grateful that the soft local release of our 4th children's book, Don't Run From The Sun has made it into the hands of children and the shelves of the Drake Elementary School and local bookstore, The Underground. Author Solonge was happy to volunteer at the Chicago Housing Authority's 15th annual Operation Warm Coat drive: Where? The book distribution section of course. Artist extraordinaire Aquabah was busy creating original art on our very first book Library, which received approval for installation in our community garden Spring 2023.

Last but not least, we are excited to announce our 4th Annual Sponsor A Class: Book Drive Campaign. It's an exciting time for us as we embark on this journey to share more of our stories with more children and we'd love and appreciate it if you can join us. Scroll down for more details. Above all.. we are grateful to occupy this space and will continue onward in our goal of creating something beautiful in this world for kids. ASA means beautiful!

Don't Run From The Sun Is Shinning Already

Don’t Run From The Sun is a story, in rhyme, about a young boy and girl who are afraid to play in the sun because they fear their skin color will get darker if they do. This soft yet powerful tale teaches the importance of being proud of your skin tone, whether light or dark, and never letting the power of the sun stop you from having fun. The story lends a kind yet strong message to kids of all backgrounds, specifically children of color, who may get teased for being of a darker hue. It is an affirmation for kids of all colors that being kissed by the sun is to be celebrated and not shaded.

ASA In The Garden Is Wrapped For The Season

October 6th was our last and final donation to our local food pantry. What a blessing it's been to dedicate a plot and intentionally grow food to share. While it may not have been much to some, it meant a lot to us and has taught us the value of giving back what the earth has given us, in the purest way. We are grateful. We look forward to keeping ASA In The Garden next season and beyond!

Sponsor A Class Campaign: Year 4

In 2019, ASA Books began donating a set of books to children at Andrew Carnegie Elementary School in Chicago, IL. It started off with just one kindergarten classroom. Each year, we set a goal to increase the number of children we gifted our books.

The first 3 years, ASA Books donated solely on our own. But as we expanded to two and three classrooms and classroom sizes grew in number we decided to reach out for help.

How You Can Donate

So, 2021 was the first year we outreached to friends and family for their help with reaching our goal. With their generous support, we gifted 145 books across 6 classrooms (between 2 schools). This year, we pray we are able to add to this number. But we need your help

HOW TO DONATE:

Starting Tuesday, November 1st, we will launch our first-ever Facebook Fundraising Page. Look out for us there. OR click the link below to learn how you can donate: By direct purchase from Amazon and mailing OR by selecting a school or program and sending payments via Zelle. We are excited and hope you can join us!
