TODAY'S GOSPEL has Jesus telling a crowd that “the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world”. When they respond ‘Sir, give us this bread always’ Jesus explains: ‘I am the bread of life.’ Later in the chapter Jesus explains that this same ‘bread of God’ is his flesh that he will give for the life of the world – a reference to his sacrificial death. He adds: “Whoever eats of this bread will live for ever”. |

HARVEST THANKSGIVING Our Parish Mass today is also our harvest thanksgiving. Thank you very much for your harvest gifts, which will be given to The Welcome Centre, who work with those who are homeless and destitute. You can also give by using the card machine and selecting ‘Harvest Donations’. Please give generously. |

MULTI-FAITH WALK OF PEACE there will be a walk of peace this afternoon starting at 12.50 at the Holocaust Memorial Garden in Valentines Park, with a welcome from the Mayor of Redbridge, and proceeding via four other venues to the Gurdwara at 400 High Rd: Everyone is welcome to come there for a vegetarian meal at 4pm. The focus is on caring for our elderly and vulnerable, with particular emphasis on the work of St Francis Hospice. People may join or leave the walk at any point. Further details are on the poster at the back of church. |

BUT IT'S NOT YET CHRISTMAS ... ADVENT QUIET DAY On Thursday 1 December, from 10am to 4pm Fr Chris Burke, Archdeacon of Barking, will lead this exploration of Advent as a season for hope, commitment and transformation, building on some of the traditional Advent themes, at The Diocesan House of Retreat in Pleshey (CM3 1HA). We shall use scripture, rooted in the great Advent themes, and some of the great Advent prayers to shape our reflections on how the season gives us space to wait upon God with expectation and be ready for joyful action. The cost is £28 or £42 including lunch. Book by Thursday 24 November at tinyurl.com/advent-retreat. |

FR JACOB our assistant priest has returned to Ghana until at least the end of December and we hope to see him back with us in the New Year. |

FINANCIAL GIVING The Parish Giving Scheme is our online and phone-based system for financial giving to the church. If you use it, it will save us hours of work (for example, by automatically handling donations and Gift Aid) - a really big help to us. You will have full control of your giving - and there’s no need to deal with your bank. There are flyers at the back of church giving simple instructions - or go online to tinyurl.com/parish-giving for further information. Please do consider seriously helping your church in this way. |
