A Leaf from Our Playbook

Irrigation Planning

Those who have been in the Pacific Northwest for any length of time know that nearly all of our rain falls from mid-October until mid-June. The summer months are very dry, making irrigation at some level required to keep landscapes green.

Whether you have drip irrigation or multiple zones with dozens of sprinkler heads, your irrigation system needs regular service. Some needs are obvious: spring testing, adjustment and activation, plus winter shut off and insulation. But there are other things to consider. Don’t wait until plants show signs of stress, have us monitor and adjust your system through the season to be sure that all plants are receiving water at the correct rate. Call us to get repairs made promptly when a line or head is broken. We offer in-depth water audits so you can be confident that your system isn’t using too much water. We can help you with any upgrades you’re considering. And don’t forget that annual backflow testing is required.

The super cool new technology that has come to market in several forms features wireless connection to the irrigation controller. This means you can be anywhere and check the system, turn zones on or off, or remotely access a difficult to reach controller.

Rainbird makes a great version that works through an app on your phone utilizing your WiFi system. This is a suitable system for residential irrigation. Commercial locations require a wireless system that utilizes cell towers rather than WiFi. We’d like to tell you more about why and how to get your system upgraded to wireless.

Wireless System

One of our irrigation technicians was at lunch on a weekend last fall when a customer called with an irrigation problem. Instead of leaving his baguette behind and driving an hour, he was able to turn the system off remotely and provide repair service the following week day rather than on an emergency basis.
