MYAN WA's November forum - Disability To finish off the year, MYAN WA's final forum will focus on young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds with disabilities. This forum aims to educate attendees and to start the conversation around the challenges and stigmas faced in communities. It will also explore how disability, settlement and youth sector services can be more inclusive and improve their services to meet the needs of these young people. Nominate for the 2020 Youth Week WA Ambassador Youth Week WA 2020 will be held from 17 to 24 April. Youth Week gives young people an opportunity to express their ideas and views, raise important youth issues, create opportunities for others to participate in activities which support their interests and development. Apply now for Harmony Week 2020 funding The Office of Multicultural Interests is offering funding of up to $2,000 for diversity and inclusion activities to celebrate Harmony Week in 2020. Harmony Week runs from 15 to 21 March every year. It is an opportunity for everyone to experience, explore and appreciate WA’s wealth of cultural, faith, linguistic and ethnic diversity. City of Vincent Film making Project The City of Vincent's film making initiative provides three filmmakers the opportunity to receive $5,000 in production funds to produce a non-fiction film that intersects with the City of Vincent. Projects must be in the documentary genre, but can be comedic, dramatic or animated. Filmmakers will be guided and mentored through the process from start to finish by Revelation’s Ashleigh Nicolau. The successful films will screen at a special gala during the 2020 Revelation Perth International Film Festival. Submissions close 1 November 2019. |

Community Leadership Training Program AsETTS has developed a new community leadership program for emerging leaders from ethno-specific communities living in the City of Canning, City of Belmont and City of Gosnells areas and other South Eastern suburbs. Kaleidoscope Mentoring program The City of Stirling's Kaleidoscope Mentoring Program is inviting applications from skilled newcomers to become mentees and be mentored by Australian professionals from their profession or industry. The mentoring cycle will run from February to April 2020. |

Creating Linguistically and Culturally Competent Suicide Prevention Materials The Creating Linguistically and Culturally Competent Suicide Prevention Materials guide is designed to help public health practitioners produce suicide prevention materials for specific cultural and linguistic communities. The guide contains key principles and steps as well as examples, tools, and resource lists. The process described can be applied to many different formats, including print materials, television or radio public service announcements and face-to-face presentations. |

Apply to be a multilingual volunteer Communicare's multilingual volunteers provide support over the telephone and in person to ensure that their clients can access all of their services. Support is provided to clients for whom English is not their first language. Volunteers must be fluent in at least one language other than English and available on a flexible basis to provide support. They will provide training and support, reimburse travel costs and provide a fun working environment. |

UNHCR Children and Young People survey MYAN Australia is working with UNHCR in Geneva to update the UNHCR’s Integration Handbook. MYAN Australia has developed a survey to learn more from young people about what they need when settling/building a new life as a refugee in their resettlement countries. This is a great opportunity to have your voice heard internationally and help shape integration and resettlement for young people. |

Social media experiences of young people The social media experiences of young people of African descent living in Australia aim to be captured in a survey This project aims to collect data that explores the everyday social media experiences of this culturally-diverse group, providing empirical evidence that substantiates the capacity of digital spaces to provide opportunities for belonging in Australia. To participate, you should be aged 16 to 25, permanently living in Australia and must identify as being of African descent. |
