Research Insights: Empowering Women's Health What is bioidentical hormone therapy and is it safer? "Bioidentical" started as a made-up marketing term and is usually referring to hormones that are similar to the hormones the ovaries produce: estradiol and progesterone. Both of these hormones are available at commercial pharmacies (ie Walgreens, CVS, etc.) and do not have to be compounded. There is some data that estradiol is better for mood changes and some data that both estradiol and progesterone are safer for the cardiovascular system, but it is limited. Compounded bioidentical hormone therapy does not have research to prove that it is safer than commercially available hormones; and should only be used in specific situations such as when a person needs a lower dose than what is available, or a person has allergies to one of the ingredients. | | |

Favorite Restaurant: The Judith Anna's pick: Check out this sweet French Cafe, The Judith, (Detroit Shoreway neighborhood @ Loraine Ave & W 52nd). A friend recommended I try their croissants and the raspberry filled one was PERFECT to share with a friend or date with a cup of coffee or beautiful latte. Co-owner Andrew chatted with me about their neighborhood French cafe born out of his experiences living in France and named after his mother Judith, a French teacher. They wanted simple, delicious menus, not a lot of sauces, and that feel of a corner French cafe, relaxing and connecting with others. I think they achieved it! |
