Dear there,

Reflect on this phrase: “Well begun is half done.”

How do you interpret that?

For me, it means planning is the key to success. (And I love me a short euphemism to help me remember things like this!)

The more you have prepared, researched, learned, thought, talked, or organized, the more you are likely to complete whatever task or life changes you face. You’re that much closer.

That doesn’t mean that you don’t start something or make the jump until everything is in place, because everything will never all be in place. But give yourself the strongest possible starting point you deserve and then go from there.

What does “well begun” look like for you?

Is it writing out a list? Is it talking out loud to a friend? Is it a research rabbit hole on Google? Knowing what this is for you is a great first step.

The above phrase showed itself to me while I was doing something extremely uncomfortable: being outside.

I was on a retreat in the woods. The kind of woods with no cell phone signal for miles. Fun for you, but definitely not for me. This trip was something out of my comfort zone (I used an outhouse for the first time ever!) but that’s just the thing about life: growth comes just outside of your comfort zone.

It was a big step in my personal growth to agree to go on this trip. I am thankful to have gone on it with experienced outdoorsy people who prepared and communicated and organized the trip so well that it was a good time for me. This trip made me one step closer to reaching my highest, most open self.

What is one small step you can take outside of your comfort zone that will help you grow?
