Tēnā Koutou
Next week, 22-25 January our Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, will attend the World Economic Conference in Davos, Switzerland. On the 23 January, Guy Standing a co-founder of BIEN (Basic Income Earth Network) will be one speaker at a session titled: Tackling the Growth Paradox – “Despite a period of sustained corporate profitability, rising asset prices and technological advances, the middle class faces an uncertain future. How can capitalism be reshaped to promote inclusive prosperity?”
Guy Standing has spoken in NZ on a number of occasions and was supportive of the formation of BINZ. He has spoken to us during his visits.
We want to encourage the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance to attend this session and take note of Guy Standing’s contribution.
To show the Prime Minister the ground swell in NZ for the introduction of Basic Income we are asking BINZ supporters to write to her to encourage her to attend this session.
Below is a draft letter that you are welcome to use. We encourage you to use your own words as that will mean the Prime Minister's staff will have to treat these as separate pieces of correspondence. You can email the Prime Minister at j.ardern@ministers.govt.nz. We encourage you to write to Grant Robertson as well at g.robertson@ministers.govt.nz.

Rt Hon Jacinda Ardern, Prime Minister
Tēnā koe/Dear Prime Minister
As a New Zealand citizen supportive of Basic Income I want to encourage you to attend the session Tackling the Growth Paradox on 23 January at 5.30pm, 2019 while you are attending the World Economic Forum and take note of Professor Guy Standing’s contribution.
The synopsis for the Tackling the Growth Paradox session is:
Despite a period of sustained corporate profitability, rising asset prices and technological advances, the middle class faces an uncertain future. How can capitalism be reshaped to promote inclusive prosperity?
Guy Standing is an advocate of Basic Income and has written extensively on the uncertain future that the present middle and lower income groups are experiencing. This is certainly a concern I have for New Zealand. I believe Basic Income is a promising system to ‘reshape capitalism to promote inclusive prosperity.’
I support the introduction of Basic Income in New Zealand.
Yours sincerley/ Nāku, nā
