In honor of Hisapanic Heritage Month I'll be sharing this highly rated conference workshop! Join me for a workshop that is near to my heart and learn about a different side of the Latine population. Too often in the field of power based violence, we only see workshops on serving undocumented Latine survivors (which is a very small percentage of our overall group).

July's newsletter had information on decolonizing mental health. A lot of times we minimize "microaggressions" and racism but they have a serious impact. See the connection between racism and mental health:

This is important when we talk about suicide. The below webinar highlights disparities Latine and Indigenous people experience in help seeking, treatment, and more for mental health needs. I personally love this webinar because the presenter is inclusive and discusses additional factors like how trans and non binary Latine people being left out of data. Check it out and learn more!

A critical step toward supporting survivors and especially BIPOC communities is to implement cross cultural tools for healing. For me, music worked more than therapy and more than any white western model of care. I created the below workshop to shed light on the utility of music and I hope you join/spread the word about it! It's my most personal workshop and incredibly important to my journey as a survivor. I'm a big believer in practicing musical exercises before recommending them to clients you may be working with. I also added a bunch of examples for violence prevention work that I have done across different age groups.

Sign up and get ready to try out some techniques with me via this guided workshop!

From Victim to Survivor: Music as a Tool for Healing and Empowerment | veronicaquinonez

In order for service providers in gender/power based violence to be more effective we need to take decolonizing approaches that incorporate various tools for healing. This training specifically focuses on music as a tool that survivors of violence can turn to AND examines how music can be incorporated into violence prevention.
