The Omorefe Tribe

March 2021

As the first quarter of 2021 is coming to an end we would like to share a family update with you.

Johnbull and Stacy have been planning for the year and praying towards upcoming community outreaches, students going to school, and the year ahead.

Johnbull takes care of the day-to-day operations at CORM. His primary focus has been on making sure all of the senior high and university students have everything they need for this school year and that they are where they need to be. Because of COVID, our new school year in Ghana is now January-December instead of September-August. The change in the start date gave us some extra time to plan and prepare.

Stacy has been working at our school, Faith Roots, to ensure that each student is assessed in reading, and then the kids who need extra help have a reading coach. Stacy is passionate that our students are reading at grade level by the time they are in the 3rd grade, and for those who are behind that they receive the extra help they need. She is also coaching the women in our single mother’s program, CORE, in reading.

Rosemary is finishing up her last year in university. She is busy teaching Caleb and Justice in the mornings and then studying the rest of the day. She can do most of her work from home, but some of her professors ask that she comes to campus for exams.

Paul and Grace have been helping at Faith Roots this term. Grace is working in the Creche classroom, and Paul is teaching computer classes to all of the students at FRIA. They will both be returning to university in April.

Valentina returned to Radford University this month. She has in-person classes, so she is living near the school. We are looking forward to having her home at Easter.

Mary is boarding at her senior high school. She was home last week for a mid-term break. It was good to have her home for a short break. We are waiting to hear where Michael and Dora will be going to senior high school. They have been busy studying and helping at home since they finished JHS.

JJ and Miracle are finishing up their Junior year of high school. They are both enrolled at Liberty University Online Academy. JJ is taking his electives in music, and Miracle is studying computer applications. They are both looking forward to their senior year.

Bright is in the 8th grade this year. He is working hard to be at the top of his class and enjoys playing basketball with his friends.

Caleb and Justice are learning from an American homeschool curriculum. Caleb is in the 8th grade, and Justice is in 6th. Joel is an active 5th grader; he is athletic and loves to play football. Mercy is in the 1st grade; she loves to play with her friends after school at the playground. She is a sweet, caring, and loving little girl.

Partner With Us

We relocated our family to Ghana, from South Dakota, in January 2010. God had given us the vision to build the City of Refuge Ministries and rescue children who had been sold into slavery on Lake Volta. By the grace of God, City of Refuge Ministries has grown into more than we could have ever imagined. Our dream is to continue fighting to keep families together by empowering single mothers, restoring children who have been rescued from child slavery, providing higher education opportunities to the youth, and loving the communities around us with the Love of Jesus Christ.

COVID AT CORM

COVID has breached the borders of the CORM Children's Village. We aren't sure how it entered, but Johnbull and I were both sick with body aches, headaches, and fevers at the beginning of March. These are the same symptoms as malaria, so that's what we thought we had, but when I lost my ability to taste and smell, we knew it was time to get tested.

Please Pray For Us

  • While we are waiting to hear where Michael and Dora will go to continue their education please pray with us that it will be a school where they will grow and be encouraged.

  • Please keep our university students in your prayers. Rosemary graduates this year and then will begin her National Service.

  • Please pray for everyone at CORM that is being affected by the COVID virus. Pray that they feel better soon and that more people don't get sick.

  • Some of our children will be reintegrated back into their families in the upcoming weeks. Please keep them, their families, and our corm family in your prayers during this time of transition.

  • We are planning an outreach to Hausa Kope from April 8th - 12th. We will be leading a Women's Cycle of Life workshop for the women and drilling boreholes (wells) during the day and crusades in the evening.
