Cuba to Exhibit Environmental Achievements in next UNESCO MeetingHAVANA, Cuba, May 24 (ACN) Cuba will show its achievements in the reduction of disaster risks and its work against the impact of climate change during a UNESCO meeting.

Cuba's experiences will be shared with participants to UNESCO's International Scientific School to be held from May 29 th to June 1st in Havana's Hotel Nacional with the objective of promoting dialog among researchers and policy makers.

The representative of the Regional office of Culture for Latin America and the Caribbean, Olga Rufins said that the event will center its debates on the construction of resilient societies through the relationship of research with the reduction of disaster risks and the adaptation to climate change in the Caribbean.

She added that one of the most important presentations of the sub-regional forum will be Tarea Vida, name of the Cuban State Plan against climate change.

The official said four UN scientific programs will converge for the first time: Management of Social Transformations, Inter-governmental Oceanic Commission, Humanity and Biosphere Program and the International Hydrologic.

The President of the UNESCO's Cuban National Commission, Oscar Leon said there will be panel exchanges and round tables on the adaptation of climate change in small island states in the development of the Caribbean one of the problems of major concerns in the sub-region.

He stressed that positive experiences will be shared and the challenges regarding the construction of resilient cities, in addition to strengthening South-South cooperation.

According to the official, the meeting hosted by Cuba is an expression of the ties between the island and UNESCO, in addition to the recognition of Havana's efforts to reinforce international cooperation in scientific research.

In representation of the Environmental Agency, the Minister of Science, Technology and the Environment (CITMA), Rudy Montero referred to the island's strengthens in its programs to reduce disaster risks, ease the effects of climate change, unity human potential, political will and conception of the civil defense system.

According to reports, the event will have the participation of 70 Cuban and foreign representatives among them 14 of the 15 member States of the Caribbean Community.

The Assistant General Sub-Director of UNESCO's Social Sciences, Nada Al-Nashif; the President of CITMA, Elsa Rosa Montoya and other high-level officials are among the guests.
