Salado Montessori

Friday Update

Another wonderful week has come to an end and we continue to be intrigued by the progress our young students are making.  One of the cornerstones of any Montessori classroom is observation.  Through her certification and continuing education, Ms. Webb has received hours and hours of training on the art of observation.   This allows her to understand the needs of each of our learners and anticipate what will interest them next.  The learning toys were absent from the classroom Monday morning and each of our students spent all week focused on meaningful Montessori work.

With the removal of our learning toys came a greater interest in new works, including watercoloring, plant care, washing dishes, and scissors.   Please continue to invite your kiddos to help clean up after themselves - they know how and enjoy doing it at school!

"Ice Cream"

Each day we enjoy lunch together, often playing I Spy or discussing the colors found on our plates and clothes.  During one of these conversations this week, we talked about how to make 'ice cream'.  You may enjoy this dairy-free recipe from one of our families.  It's packed with protein and nutrition and kids love it.

  • 6 frozen bananas
  • 3/4 cup peanut butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 block of tofu
  • pinch of salt

Blend all ingredients well in a food processer and ENJOY!

Other ingredients to play with include: cinnamon, frozen cherries, frozen mango, or pistachios.

Our little ones have been taking more and more interest in reading on their own this week.  Click the button below to watch a sweet rendition of "The Busy Bulldozer":

Our school's front yard is currently a blank canvas awaiting a permaculture makeover, including a beautiful garden integrated throughout the yard, an epic sandbox, a very small orchard and more.  This year we will host a volunteer day to help build both the sandbox and a keyhole garden.  If you've never heard of a keyhole garden, here's a blog post with many examples and explanations: insteading.com/blog/keyhole-garden
And, be on the lookout for an upcoming Volunteer Day!  Details coming soon.

SPONSOR RECOGNITION

Many of the beautiful materials in our school were donated by local shops, other schools, friends, family, and Salado residents.

One of those shops is actually many shops in one.  The Shoppes on Main donated dozens of gorgeous items to help get our classroom outfitted for the first day of school.  Beautiful trays, copper bowls, baskets, art and more came due to the generosity of the dynamic sister duo Amy Young and Lara Tracy.  The Shoppes on Main is a collective of local vendors catering to a cross-generational clientele.  If you're looking for a great gift for any occasion, be it funky socks, kids parties, kitchen goods, or local art, please stop 22 N Main St and take a look.

Thank you.

Both Ms. Webb & Ms. Alissa caught the 'bug,' so the week was a short one. Thank you to all our families for your understanding. Currently we are going through the hiring process and will be bringing on additional staff to prevent school closures due to illness in the future.

We hope you each have a healthy and rejuvenating weekend!
