3 Daft Monkeys Newsletter 17 September 2021

“Their live show strikes a quality balance of spaced-out dizziness, dance-ability and sophisticated folk music”

(Bearded Theory Festival)

It’s been an unexpectedly hectic but amazingly brilliant summer as 3 Daft Monkeys dived headlong into festival touring life with a bang. It was so emotional to be back out in a real festival vibe. It’s been really quite overwhelming…

It’s certainly been a long time since we have been able to post pictures like these:

The Minack Theatre

This was certainly a night we will never forget! 600 excited people on the edge of a cliff in one of the most beautiful theatres in the world. Just incredible… a dream come true. People had travelled through the night from all over the country, Scotland, Switzerland, LA, to come to the gig. The weather was perfect, the crescent moon rose, the stars came out, and we sang our hearts out. I think the pictures sum it up… we are still fizzing!!! We love you all xxx

Exciting news... we also filmed it, so fingers crossed, we'll have some super cool footage for you soon xxx

We’ve also had the pleasure of playing festivals and gigs every week for the last 10 weeks and every single one has been electric! We have never been happier to be out on the road.

To play amplified stages, both big and small, and feel the energy bubbling from a dancing, singing crowd is an experience like no other, and we have missed it so much. And from your reactions.. seems like you’ve missed it too. We all need live music, and live music needs us!!!

HURRY ON SUNDOWN!

Last weekend 3 Daft Monkeys were invited to play at “Hawkfest”, the festival of musical legends Hawkwind at a secret location in Devon.

On arrival, our very own fiddle player Athene was personally invited by Dave Brock to join Hawkwind, who were headlining the Saturday night, in their encore to play the iconic upbeat hit “Hurry on Sundown”.

Athene says: “What an honour and a privilege that was. I have to admit I was a bit nervous, as we hadn’t rehearsed together at all, so I had to improvise the whole thing… and the key it was in was a bit of a surprise… C sharp!!!  I especially loved my intro as “part of the very fabric of the alternative culture”!! What absolutely gorgeous welcoming smiley chaps the band were, it turned a nervous moment into a whole lot of fun. It’s so hard to believe that Dave Brock turned 80 last week, I guess a lifetime of rock n roll certainly suits some people”

A NEW SONG FOR YOU ALL

A few weeks ago at the most awesome Beautiful Days Festival gig we premiered a BRAND NEW SONG, especially written for YOU! All of you! All of you wonderful individuals that have supported us through these crazy times, tuned in to our Cyberbusks, donated, send kind words and spread the love. It was emotional!

The song is called “Roses” and we will be playing it at all out forthcoming gigs, so get learning this catchy chorus, we want to hear you singing it!

It has been so very very special to be able to meet some of you in real life and put faces to names, as the 3DM Cyberbusk family finally begins to meet each other. There’s been tears, joy, and a whole bucketload of other emotions, but definitely a whole heap of love that we have gathered in the last 18 months.

We felt that it was important to document this time, and have made a DVD entitled “Year of the Cyberbusk”, in which we have chosen the best bits… the funny bits, the emotional bits, your favourite songs, our favourite songs. It’s a double DVD packed with ‘live’ songs from both the duo, the band, and the zoom meet-ups of us all together. It’s quite a journey!

We also have special limited edition “Year of the Cyberbusk” t-shirts and vest tops available for our shop, so that you can spot another member of the Cyberbusk community out and about, and put names to real faces! Check them out at our online store

TOUR STARTS TONIGHT!

After the summer of gigs we’re taking this vibe to venues around the country in the next few months. Hopefully you can join us on our “21 Years Wild” national tour, starting tonight! We'll see you soon!
