March Highlights

Greetings I AM STEM Family,

Happy Women's History Month!

This month we'd like to highlight Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett, the viral immunologist who co-developed the Moderna vaccine. In 2020, our superheroes wore lab coats. The brilliance of black women doctors and scientists has been at the forefront of the global race to develop the COVID-19 vaccine, and history has been made. Recognizing Dr. Corbett’s contributions and leadership in vaccine research during the pandemic is especially important due to the fact that COVID-19 has disproportionately impacted black communities within the US, and black women in science tend to be left out of history books. Dr. Corbett hopes that her critical work will help inspire future generations of girls of colour in science, who can see themselves in her success.

We're also excited to announce that our virtual I AM STEM summer camp will be held from June 21st to July 16th, 2021. Registration will be open on April 1st, 2021.

Be sure to be on the lookout for more information coming soon.

Warmest regards,

I AM STEM Leadership Team

Hello, Future Environmental Change Agent!

As we are adjusting to a new way of life due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and factors contributing to climate change, it is more important than ever that we consider ways to help our environment.  Environmental Scientists and Researchers analyze the dangers and effects the ecosystem may suffer as a result of human interactions.  At FAMU's School of the Environment, we are equipping the next generation of environmental geoscientists, physicists, biologists, chemists, or engineers who will help to preserve our quality of life.

We would like to invite you to "Get to Know FAMU's School of the Environment" virtual recruitment/info and Q&A session on Wednesday, March 10, at 4 pm. via Zoom.  During this session, you will hear from the Dean, Professors, and Students who will share their perspectives about our academic programs and campus life.  Additionally, we will share information about our Living-Learning  Community (LLC) and scholarship/grant funding that you may qualify for.
