EMPTY BOWLS Wow! LFC's first annual Empty Bowls event, presented by FloraCraft, will be here before you know it! Mark your calendar for Saturday, March 7, from 4-7 p.m. at LACA. We'll have live music, Feeding Frenzy beer from Starving Artist (as well as other drink options), a tasty late-winter meal, a head-to-head competition among area restaurants for the best soup and - best of all - a fun opportunity to gather and do some good for our neighbors in need. Tickets will go on sale next Friday, January 24, so watch the LFC website and the Facebook event for the link to purchase tickets. All ticket holders will receive a locally made ceramic bowl, a reminder of the food insecurity faced by many Mason County residents. Can't make it? Our accompanying online auction will kick off on February 19 and will feature tons of fabulous items generously donated by local folks. Get your hands on some fun experiences, one-of-a-kind art and more to help the 4,000+ individuals served by LFC. |

My husband and I are excited to announce that we are expecting our second child this spring. As our family grows, mid-March will see my last days at the Food Club. What an honor and privilege it has been to be part of the Lakeshore Food Club team these past several years! It's been an amazing journey seeing the community’s dream of bridging the gap for our food insecure neighbors come to fruition. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Kate, LFC's Program Coordinator, and all of the support staff, volunteers, board members and enthusiastic advocates and supporters who have generously given of your time, talents and treasures to provide Mason County residents with dignified access to nutritious food. Every little bit we’ve contributed individually has had a huge collective impact. As I near the end of my tenure here, we are searching for a passionate and resourceful individual to take the helm and continue our mission. If you or someone you know is interested in making a difference in the community through this dynamic Executive Director position, check out the posting and apply here. With appreciation, Sarah McMahon |

THANKS A MILLION Each month there are so many wonderful people who support the Food Club's mission - we could fill an entire newsletter with those names! No matter the size of your donation, please know your gift matters beyond words. This month we want to say a special thanks to Andy Thomas at Starving Artist, for generously auctioning a "Brewer Experience" to benefit LFC. And a shout out to Dave Diephouse and the crew at The Q Smokehouse for once again collecting their Tips for Gifts in November for LFC. |

MEET BILL Bill Wolf is one of the volunteers who has been part of the Lakeshore Food Club since it opened in October 2017. Giving back is in his DNA, instilled in him by his parents. He looked forward to being involved with the Food Club as he saw the need to consolidate the several food pantries operating in Ludington. Bill regularly volunteers on Thursdays from 12 – 4 p.m., and often fills in for other shifts and projects. Bill grew up near Cleveland, Ohio, and made his way to Michigan to attend Adrian College. After completing his degree in sociology, he went into law enforcement, starting his career in Adrian. He took a “temporary” two year assignment in Ludington as a parole officer, and never left! Bill has lived in Ludington for 40 years. Bill and his wife, Barb, are both retired, although Barb still works some hours as a home health care nurse. They enjoy their five grandchildren; three live in Kansas City, two in Hudsonville. The people who Bill comes in contact with at the Food Club are what he likes best about volunteering. He feels strongly that in a country of such wealth there should not be hungry or malnourished children and knows the Food Club fills an important need in our community. |

VOLUNTEER NEEDS Many ask, "Are you still accepting new volunteers?" The answer is - ALWAYS. The Food Club takes a huge effort, and our philosophy is many hands make light work! Desired skills: computer competency, great with all kinds of people, initiative, team spirit and flexibility. (If you've ever worked in a grocery store or restaurant that's a bonus!) Check in with Kate if you're interested in joining this amazing group of people. If you're looking to get involved in the LFC community, but aren't able to commit to a regular schedule, there are still plenty of opportunities to help out. Inquire about special projects, inventory help and more! |
