Five Facts About Me: I was a middle school teacher for a few years before I started writing for a healthcare company and focusing on my novels full time. The current state of the education system in the US is not built to be sustainable for teachers, so even though I loved so many aspects of the job, I needed to prioritize my physical and mental health. I hope to return to the classroom someday, but maybe as a college professor.
My husband and I recently purchased our first home! With the help, a lot of help, of our families (especially my dad) we flipped the entire thing and we are getting ready to move in soon. We've nicknamed the house "The Green Bean" because most of the house is painted my favorite color. I wanted a black, gothic library...so we will see if that happens.
I am an unashamed Disney adult. Not like the cringe ones you see online that have full conversations with the characters at the parks or sob uncontrollably when they see Cinderella's Castle. I'm more of a "I love to visit once a year" and "I'm super nostalgic about the movies from my childhood" type. I'm obsessed with all things Halloween, horror, and spooky. I'll definitely use this newsletter to recommend some of my favorite films! A lot of the events in my books end up taking place around Halloween or autumn just because I love that time of year so much.
My husband and I have four...yes four, cats. The first cat, Camille, was adopted from a local shelter when we first moved in together. That Thanksgiving, a kitten was found living in a shed behind our vet's office so we took in Oliver. Then, the following year, I heard howling in the field behind our apartment. An injured, malnourished cat came running up to my husband and I, so we took in Hughie, an elder cat. He ended up having diseased tooth decay and his behavior prevents him from being around our other cats. But we still love him. Most recently we adopted a barn cat from one of my coworkers, Buster, whose mother was killed by a Coyote.
Bonus Fact: I am a diehard Hunger Games fan. My obsession started in middle school but it only grew as I read the first book to my own classes. I have posters in my office, I reread the books and rewatch the movies at least once a year, and I have a Mockingjay tattoo. I will definitely be at the midnight showing of A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes later this year! |

Emma's Monthly Movie Recommendation: Prisoners (2013) |
|

Synopsis: Keller Dover's (Hugh Jackman) worst nightmares come true when his daughter and her friend disappear. After searching, they end up at an old, out of place motorhome parked on the street. The driver (Paul Dano) is arrested by Detective Loki (Jake Gyllenhaal) but a lack of evidence forces him to release his only suspect. Dover, desperate to save his daughter and her friend must take matters into his own hands. My Thoughts: This movie is fast paced, brutal, and suspenseful. I consider it one of the best suspense thrillers that I've ever seen. The actors do a phenomenal job and the tension never breaks, not even at the end of the film. As someone who watches a lot of thrillers/horror films, I can't recommend this movie enough! |
