National Friends of Libraries Week: Celebrating our Library Friends
October 17—23 is National Friends of Libraries Week, a time to thank our Friends of the Library for the difference they make, raising funds to support ​new books for our shelves, our popular Summer Learning and Winter Reading Challenges, Patchwork Tales Storytelling Festival, and so much more. Why not join the Friends to make friends of your own, give back to our community, and make our library even better? Already a Friends member? Help spread the word! Now Available: Free Home Access to ABCmouse
Thanks to a Youth Literacy Grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, YCL patrons now have free home access to ABCmouse.com Early Learning Academy!

Designed for children ages 2–8, this award-winning digital learning resource features more than 850 lessons and 10,000 learning activities across all major subject areas — including more than 2,000 STEM learning activities and 1,200 learning activities in Spanish. Visit YCL's Online Learning page now to easily access ABCmouse for your computer, tablet, or smartphone.

Take the YCL Drawin' October 31–Day Drawing Challenge 
Get drawing with York County Library! This daily drawing challenge is open to all ages. Choose one of our single-word drawing prompts for October or, for an extra challenge, combine two or three! Check out weekly posts on social media to see our staff's creations, and be sure to share your own doodles with us using the hashtag #YCLDrawinOctober!

Can You Help YCL Find Waldo?
Where's Waldo? He's in the Library, of course! The famous wandering book character in the striped shirt and black-rimmed specs is hiding at the Main Library throughout the Children's Department. Stop by the Children's Reference desk this month to pick up a clue sheet, find the six hidden Waldos, and get a small prize!

Family Storytime in the Park: Join us at Miracle Park on Monday, Oct. 11, from 4–4:30 p.m. for an outdoor, family-friendly storytime filled with stories, songs, and more! Come early to check out books from the Bookmobile. No registration is required and children of all ages are welcome. Miracle Park is located at 1005 Eden Terrace in Rock Hill; storytime will be held in the picnic area near the playground. For more information, see the Events Calendar.

Kanopy Fright Fest 2021:
A Collection of Films to Fear!
'Tis the season for a good scare, so join us as we present Kanopy Fright Fest 2021! Containing all the ghouls and ghosts you could ever want, this haunting set of horror movies offers all the hair-raising, bone-chilling characters that make this genre such a thrill to watch.

Whether you are looking for memorable monsters or something a tad more terrifying, this lineup is sure to deliver all the heart-pounding moments that fans of horror will be looking for leading up to Halloween. Go to YCL's Virtual Library to watch these devilish titles … if you dare!

YCL Enters "Scarecrow Crawl"
Check out YCL's entry in the Fort Mill 7th Annual Scarecrow Crawl! The Scarecrow Crawl runs Oct. 4–31 and features a variety of unique scarecrows created by individuals, schools, businesses, organizations, churches, and more. Judges will vote on their favorites, and the public can share its choices on the Town of Fort Mill Facebook page from Oct. 8–29. Winners will be announced Oct. 30.

Clover & York: Saturday, 9 a.m.–2 p.m.

Friends Books on Main: Come shop a huge selection of books, DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks for all ages at this book store, operated by the Friends of the York County Library. Friends Books on Main is open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. at 206 East Main Street in Old Town Rock Hill.
