| | Harbour crossing - another change of plans? It has been reported that the Government wants to fast track the work on a second harbour crossing, likely to be a tunnel. Deputy PM Grant Robertson said he wanted a solution that treated all modes fairly. The current plan for the bridge only serves two modes – walking and cycling. Private vehicles and public transport are not included. A recent Newshub-Reid research poll asked: Do you think the Government should spend $785 million on a cycle bridge? 82% said no, while just 12% said yes. | | How do you feel about hybrid working ? Hybrid is being viewed as a happy medium, combining working from home and going to the office – and it’s rapidly becoming the norm for businesses worldwide. But just how viable is it? It is supposed to bring benefits, like more flexibility and autonomy for workers - but does it really work? Are you doing excess hours now that your laptop is part of the furniture? Why are people responding to emails so late at night? Image credit: Getty Images | | |

| | What's the future for EV batteries here in NZ? Last year worldwide sales of electric vehicles (EVs) rose by 41%. Despite the growth in popularity of EVs, there are still questions around how long the batteries will last and what will happen to those batteries when they reach the end of their life. The good news is that plans are underway to enable EV batteries to be repurposed and recycled. The work is being led by the Battery Industry Group (BIG). | | UK aims to be first in the world to have emission free roads The UK government’s Decarbonising Transport plan is targeting having only zero-emissions vehicles on the UK’s roads - a world first. No new fossil fuelled vehicles will be sold after 2040, with sales of smaller diesel trucks proposed to be banned from 2035, and larger ones by 2040. It follows a previously announced phase-out of new fossil-fuel cars and vans in 2035. The green group Transport & Environment (T&E) has welcomed the proposal as a ‘milestone’ in the shift to greener transport, but it warns more difficult decisions to reduce vehicle use and flying will still be needed to meet the UK’s ambitious climate goals.
