Arthur's instagram bio says it all 'Gardener in pots, growing flowers for bees, lover of hens and flamingos, Joanna Lumley & writer'. He is also Sarah Raven's right hand man which takes him all over the UK assisting with Sarah's courses not to mention designing 'The Cutting Garden' for the RHS on behalf of Sarah Raven at the RHS Hampton Court Flower Show, 10th-15th September. Arthur is currently living with his 94 year old grandmother, Nana Min, and his hens, as well as to'ing and fro'ing to water plants in his own garden a short distance away. Arthur's chickens have always lived with Min where there is plenty of room and grass for the chickens to roam and scratch around in, unlike Arthur's yard which is more suited to growing flowers in tubs. |
|
Which brings me on to tell you about Arthur's new book 'The Flower Yard A Year Of Growing In Pots' boasting a mass of decorative and single nectar rich dahlias planted in Russo jungle style. Arthur is using 'lockdown' to concentrate on getting this book finished. However, if you would like a taster of Arthur's plants, hens and wisdom, look no further than his first book, 'The Pottery Gardener', either buy it now in hardback or, the revised paperback edition comes out in June this summer (Arthur is much more pleased with the photographs in this edition with several new ones being included). If you don't already follow Arthur on instagram, and you are a garden, flower or hen junkie and have a good sense of humour, I suggest you press follow: arthurparkinson_ + watch out for Arthur on next week's Gardeners' World BBC2 8.30pm, an hour long episode focusing on tulips. |

| | PODCAST SCULPTING LIVES HOSTED BY JO BARING & SARAH TURNER Sculpting Lives is a podcast series exploring the lives and careers of Dame Barbara Hepworth, Dame Elisabeth Frink, Kim Lim, Phyllida Barlow, and Rana Begum. The profession and practice of sculpture was seen by many throughout the 20th century (and before) to be very much a man’s world. Often using heavy and hard materials, sculpture was not typically viewed as suitable for women artists. The podcasts explore the lives and careers of these five women who worked (and are still working) against these preconceptions, forging successful careers and contributing in ground-breaking ways to the histories of sculpture and art. The programmes are recorded in places that are significant for these women – their studios, as well as galleries and public places where their work is on display – and includes new interviews with curators, friends, family and the artists themselves, creating intimate soundscapes of their private and public worlds. | | |

| | PODCAST TEA & TATTLE HOSTED BY MIRANDA MILLS Tea & Tattle is a podcast for bibliophiles that celebrates female creativity and storytelling. Tea & Tattle with Lucy Worsley is one of the many insightful podcasts Miranda has recorded. Miranda is joined by Lucy to discuss her latest novel for young adults, The Austen Girls. Lucy Worsley is an historian, writer, television presenter and the Chief Curator of the Historic Royal Palaces. Miranda highly recommends The Austen Girls for anyone who is homeschooling during lockdown 'as well as being a fun, gripping story that both children and adults can enjoy. The Austen Girls also gives a fascinating perspective on the domestic sphere of women in Georgian England. I had a fabulous time chatting to Lucy about her love for Jane Austen anyhow she came to write this novel about the Austen nieces'. | | |
