Get to Know Your Town Government

Todd Shero - Dog Control Officer

Every licensing town, city or village in New York State must have a Dog Control Officer (DCO) and municipal shelter services. For the Town of Wheatland, Todd Shero serves as the DCO. The DCO and shelter service enforce both State and local dog laws and ordinances.

Welcome to the Dog Control Office !

The mission of the Dog Control Office is to promote the public health, safety, and welfare of people in the Town by enforcing regulations and restrictions on the activities of dogs that are consistent with the rights and privileges of dog owners and the rights and privileges of other citizens and visitors of the Town of Wheatland. It is the DCO’s responsibility to pick up lost and stray dogs and humanely care for them until the dogs can be reunited with their owners. If your dog is lost or you find a lost dog, contact the Town of DCO or the Town's contract shelter, the Scottsville Veterinary Hospital & Pet Adoptions. If a dog is lost but identified with a New York identification tag, the DCO will contact the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets to trace the dog tag to the owner.

Its very important to license your dog, here are the top three reasons:

  • To control and prevent the spread of rabies
  • Easy identification to return lost dogs to their owners
  • IT'S NEW YORK STATE LAW

You can contact the Dog Control Officer by phone at (585) 889-1553, option 6; call (585) 747-0275 for lost dogs; or send an email. The DCO will make every effort to respond to requests as quickly as possible. Read more about the Dog Control Department and licensing dogs...

What I "Like" About Wheatland

A Quote from Shelly Gorino

I have been involved in the Scottsville community for over 15 years through the Scottsville Ice Arena. Through many of our community events, I got to know the people and decided to purchase my home here and I’m so happy I did!

"I enjoy the history of this community and the Sage-Marlowe Historical Home, the events at the Smith-Warren American Legion Post such as the Steak Roast & Chicken BBQ , the many recreational activities such as the annual Parade of Lights with Santa located on Main St. A new addition to our community is Patrick Place-a comfort care home providing love and support to the terminally ill and their families. So many different ways to volunteer and get involved with your neighbors and friends, that’s the best thing about being a part of the Wheatland community.".
