Juniors We ran our 1st ever L6 USTA Junior tournament Jan 17-19 as part of the new national USTA tournament structure. Very similar to former L1B, USTA now has an across the board tournament structure for all sections, making it easier for juniors to understand and cross over from section to section. In 2021 USTA will unveil their new ranking format which will be a simplified nationwide system, one we eagerly await. Our event had 40 entrants a very good number and featured consolation matches and doubles. Congrats to local tny finalists Reece Goodman B 14, Howard Logan B16, Bridgette Martin G18. And special congrats to Adelie Wilson G14 winner & Peep Williams, G18 winner! Congrats also to Lucas Davis & Ezequiel Viteri Boys 14 doubles winners! This was a great event and we hope to run another this summer (Pics above Adelie Wilson & Bradley Weldon rt, Peep Williams & Bridgette Martin left) (Pic below Logan Howard & Wesley Poe left, Reece Goodman & Mahen Bitkuri) |

JTT The 2nd half of the season is now underway. In our 18 U JTT Team Weinheimer has crept into 1st place over Rizzuto 193 to 183 with Speicher right on their heels with 179 points. Team Spottek is banged up worse than an NFL football team and we won’t disclose their score! Team Holdrege leads Team Davis in 14 U JTT 107-95 and Spencer is currently in 1st place over Govindaraju in our flexible partner exchange 12 U league. We are starting to see some of our juniors playing out of town tournaments. This is great news as playing matches is key to improving. There are many USTA tournaments within a few hour radius and we encourage you to explore options and ask our advice. |

Binghamton University The BU men played a double header this past Sunday, entertaining us with gritty play and high energy. Losing 4-3 to Youngstown St in the morning almost pulling off a win despite missing their #1-2 players, the Bearcats bounced back for a 6-1 win in the afternoon vs St Francis. There will be two more BU matches in February. The women play a brand new opponent Eastern Michigan, Thursday Feb 20, 1pm while the men play conference foe and 2X defending champ Western Michigan Friday Feb 28, 1pm. Two matinee match-ups well worth attending. If you frequent the club, you will most likely see both teams practicing hard, gearing up for their upcoming match season. Fans in the house! Eastern Conference I had the good fortune to attend the USTA/Eastern conference this past weekend in White Plains. From the Eastern Hall of Fame dinner Friday evening to the various clinics, seminars and awards ceremony, this was a 1st class event well worth attending. From on court clinics including the likes of former Grand Slam Champions Arantxa & Emilio Sanchez to networking with fellow Western region attendees, the convention had something for everyone. Perhaps the highlight is the Awards ceremony where Eastern volunteers are recognized for their efforts. It is especially rewarding when local tennis volunteers receive awards, and this year Jason Spencer received the Region Volunteer of the Year award. Well deserved! On the mens side, it took all season but Ryan Davis ended up #1, was undefeated and clearly our top player. In Laddero Joe Ruth finished on top with 29 points followed closely by John Mondorf, Keith Day, Ben Santos & Mike Meier with 28 points. |
