Meet Sushant, our new Rehabilitation Director

My Career started as a Physiotherapist in private sector. After a couple years of experience, I have moved on to complete my masters in Exercise Rehabilitation. Having worked at Cambridge University Hospitals since 2006, I specialised in leading a team with General medicine and oncology.

Over the 16 years at CUH I have worked within various leadership roles and clinical areas including intensive care, neuro critical care, orthopaedics and stroke Rehab.
I have also worked in collaboration with community teams to enhance the quality of care continuity and equity delivered to the patients we serve.
I moved onto work with NHS England as the Clinical lead for AHP Supply Project. During the pandemic in conjunction with the regional chief AHP I was able to map out the AHP workforce within the region. This give me a good insight into the challenges in delivering rehabilitation within the region.

Recently, I have worked over two years with the regional AHP leadership team at NHS England- and supported them with various work streams including AHP workforce skills, Return to Practice, AHP supply and forecasted growth, whilst delivering various other projects in accordance with the national long-term workforce plans.

I hope that my knowledge and skill sets within the Rehabilitation sector both private and NHS will help me to support the major trauma network in conjunction with all the trauma units in the region in assisting and improving access to high-level rehabilitation care across the region.

I look forward to networking and supporting the delivery of Rehabilitation for Major Trauma Patients and assist in enhancing the quality of Rehab we deliver within the East of England region.

Meet the whole team >>

Goodbye, thank you and welcome...

We would like to recognise and thank Trauma Leads from hospitals around the EoE for their contribution in supporting the Network and leading their organisations in trauma care. The last 6-9 months has seen some change in the Trauma Lead landscape and as we see some leave, we must also welcome new Trauma Leads into their roles.

All current Trauma Leads are listed here on our website.

Collaboration in Rehabilitation – Assistive Technology

Date: Wednesday, 9th October 2024

Location: Askham Village Community, Doddington, PE15 0TX

Askham Village Community, CFG Law and the EoE Trauma Network have joined forces once again to bring you the next edition of the 'Collaboration in Rehabilitation' Conferences!

Please join us to explore the rapidly growing world of assistive technology and to learn more about the impact it can have on the rehabilitation of your major trauma patients.

We will be joined by representatives from companies providing technology, such as Neuromersive and Beautiful Voice, as well as hearing first hand from clinicians about how they use technology within their practice. There will also be opportunities to join a tour of Askham Village Community, view the robotics suite, and get hands on experience of the technology.

This conference is open to all NHS clinicians involved in the rehabilitation of major trauma patients. We will also welcome those working within rehabilitation in the private sector, including Case Managers, Commissioners etc.

This event will be supporting 3 Million Steps - a small charity based in the East of England who support brain injury recovery for the survivors and families to regain the best quality of life they can. Read more about this amazing charity here.

Places are free but limited, so please register as soon as possible, and can be booked via our website.

If your circumstances change and you are no longer able to attend, please inform us ASAP so that we can reallocate the place. For any queries, please contact Sian Cross

Guidance for Trauma Units:

Inpatient Management of Adult Traumatic Brain Injury

Purpose

The East of England Trauma Network & East of England Head Injury service are jointly publishing standardised guidelines to aid regional Trauma Units in the management of patients with traumatic brain injury who do not require transfer to a neurosciences centre.

These guidelines will detail assessment, ongoing monitoring, when to discuss and re-discuss with neurosurgery, and criteria for safe discharge.

Definitions and Scope
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) – Any damage to the brain resulting from trauma to the head. For the purposes of this guideline and questionnaire, TBI refers to any patients with abnormalities on brain imaging, neurological deterioration, or persistent post-traumatic amnesia requiring admission as a direct result of trauma/injury.

Locally managed – Patients who require admission to a regional Trauma Unit for a period of observation following TBI, but who do not require transfer to a Major Trauma Centre / Neurosciences Centre.
Typically these patients will have abnormalities on brain imaging which have been discussed with a neurosciences centre, and where the recommendation has been to admit the patient locally for a period of neuro-observation.

The document can be found here.
