The actual minute I heard my book was in Target Seth and I jumped into the car and had to go see it. Here's MY NAME, on a shelf in Target. This gave me chills. Plus, apparently it was chosen to be a part of the Target Book Club for the summer. So cool! |

When you're in a rut, you gotta shake things up. Try something new. Resist the temptation to cut off all your hair... (how long can I hold out??) |
My something new was this: slowing down and painting by hand. This past week I tried using watercolor and pencil to create all the different elements of my piece, then assemble them together digitally. |
I had to adjust the colors, but I love the textures of my hand-painted work, and the lively energy in my lines. |

I painted these happy boys jumping on the bed the morning after a sleepover. I imagine they're yelling, "Waffllllllles!!" |

This book by Katherine Roy has all the extremely cool and interesting science behind reproduction, nestled into a beautifully painted story of why. Why does life keep making more? |
It starts out with a family walking through the park, where they see many animals along the way. Just LOOK at these gorgeous paintings!! |
Then the book switches to about 15 spreads like this one, explaining the details of one aspect of reproduction after another. |
I did not know how fish reproduce! So fascinating! The book covers amphibians, birds, flowers, mammals, and reptiles, explaining what these different systems have in common, and what's unique about each. And every single spread has GORGEOUS illustrations by Katherine. |
This book makes an intimidating topic approachable and beautiful! (it keeps human reproduction out of the picture; you're only reading about other creatures!) This copy of Making More is from the library, but I'm ordering my own because it's truly a fantastic read & resource! |

Summer is my favorite season on planet earth, so I'm planning to get outside as much as possible before terrible snow ravages my existence! Enjoy this throwback to last winter when snow was ravaging my existence. See you next month, CB |
