🌧️  Drought Emergency Proclamation

As I write this, the Governor expanded the drought emergency to include Calaveras and 38 other counties.  I know we will manage again.

🏥  Public Health Services

The County is purchasing a Mobile Medical Unit to support a broad range of services such as health education and vaccinations throughout the County.  Community outreach is more important than ever, now and during emergencies.

👥  County Personnel Changes

Robert Pachinger, Deputy Public Works Director was appointed the Public Works Director.  He has been with the County since 1990.

Cori Allen was appointed Director of Health and Human Services.  She was Deputy Director of Social Services in Tuolumne.

Dr. Rene Ramirez is the new Public Health Officer.  He is based in Fresno and replaces Dr. Paul Beatty as our Interim Public Health Officer.

Amber Collins is the Interim Planning Director.  She is also the Executive Director of the Calaveras Council of Governments.

🆘  Domestic Violence

The recent shooting event in San Andreas reminds me that domestic violence exists in all parts of our County.  We have a Calaveras Crisis Center in Murphys at 409 Church Street.  They offer support and services regarding domestic violence, child abuse, and sexual assault.  All information is confidential.  Their number is (209) 890-3950

🦮  Animal Services

We finally have an ad hoc committee,  which I am on, to develop plans and funding for a new animal shelter which will hopefully include a barn for the horses, goats, cows and other farm animals we receive.  For years, the Grand Jury has been saying that a new shelter is needed and now we are finally moving forward.  I will keep you posted as this effort proceeds.

🚧  Blagen Bridge Project

Robert Pachinger and I had a meeting with White Pines Park Committee, Ebbetts Pass Moose Lodge, Courtright-Emerson Ballpark, and the July Car Show group with Michael Minkler, CCWD General Manager, and his field staff on the schedule of the bridge replacement.  We hope to work around the schedules of the groups and possibly start after Labor Day.  The goal is to finish this year – FINALLY!

🚜  Bret Harte High School Ag Department

Gail Bunge, Bret Harte School Board Member, invited me to tour the agriculture facility.  The passion and dedication of the Chair and FFA Advisor, Carrie Phillips and the students, Sommer and Delaney, was impressive.  You can find plants/flowers that the floral cooperative grows at local nurseries.  There is a lot to be proud of.
