The Queensland Families and Communities Association Inc will hold its Annual General Meeting at 11.00 am Tuesday 6th November 2018 at Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre, 38 Thallon St, Sherwood. Registration of attendance and refreshments from 10.00am.  Notice of the AGM and a draft agenda is below:

Community Development Queensland is holding a seminar on Place Based Initiatives.  It will feature aboriginal and neighbourhood centre perspectives from Grant Paulson (World Vision), Fiona Hunt (QCOSS) and Ann Ingamels (Coalition of Community Boards).  It's on Thursday 1st Nov 4-6pm at Griffith Uni South Bank. More details are below:

The Hub, Sherwood and Benarrawa Neighbourhood Centres are running Stories of Survival at 10am on 19th October at Corinda Library.  Featuring ABC journalist and Walkley Award winner Nance Haxton, Stories of Survival is a podcast series aimed at raising awareness of poverty and how community centres can help.  Click below for more information:

Want to run an event, project or activity during Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month in May 2019?  The Queensland Government Community grants program has opened applications.  Applications need to be submitted by 26th October 2015 and grants up to $5000 are available.

 
DV Month Grants
 

The Queensland Microfinance Forum is taking place from Thursday 8th - Friday 9th November at Springlife Conference Centre, Springwood.  Presented by Good Shepherd Microfinance, the forum will explore how No Interest and Low Interest loans can assist people on low incomes.  It will also discuss the impact of risky small amount credit contracts like Afterpay and Zip Pay.  Click on the link below to register:

The Australian Law Reform Commission's Family Law Discussion Paper is now available online.  Many Neighbourhood Centres interact with community members impact by Family Law issues and can offer valuable feedback.   Click on the flyer below if you'd like to offer your thoughts to the commission about the recommendations.

Our research paper for this week comes from Kelly Taylor, Community Development Worker for the Brisbane City Council and Masters Graduate from Deakin University.  She has written an excellent dissertation on "What approaches are Neighbourhood Houses and Community Centres in Southeast Queensland taking to adapt and survive under the current funding agenda?".
