I have been putting off writing this month’s newsletter, as I really haven’t known what to say here…what do we do when the world is in shambles? October has been a month full of suffering and sadness, the world over. I cannot pretend an email full of pretty things and recipes can be of any use in times such as these, but I do feel that now is a time more than ever to seek out pockets of joy. To come together with those we love most in the world and share a meal, to indulge our hearts and make time for one another. Friendship, family and community can act as a wonderful salve when our hearts are aching. The daylight hours are diminishing and the morning air has begun to bite. This change of season allows us the time to shift our perspectives, to make room for contemplation, for listening and for caring for one another. As we add more layers to our attire and to our bedding, as we turn on our furnaces, stock our wood stoves, light more candles and brace ourselves for the colder days ahead, I can’t help but think of how we can bring more warmth and comfort into our lives. With that in mind, this month’s newsletter includes; warm socks, a wool blanket, a soothing drink and a filling pasta, amongst other sought out items that are perfect for the season. Lately I have also found myself delving into period dramas, and British detective series, while contemplating new paint colours for the walls of my home. I thought it was about time I focus some of my efforts on our house! So far I have landed on a warm apricot nude for the living room, a gorgeous blue for our main entry and halls, chosen for its chameleon like tendency to change from green to light blue to grey, depending on the time of day. I have also landed on lighter blue for my office, a wonderful colour to work in, as it promotes concentration, and lastly a vibrant plumb for our dining room, perfect for gathering in, as it will feel enveloping and cozy. Should I bring you along for the journey? Perhaps next month I will include before photos and a colour story. In the interim, stay well and take care of one another, and as always thank you for being here. |
