NEWS FROM MRS. TOBERGTE Dear St. Patrick Families, The season of Lent has arrived, and yesterday Father Roux led an Ash Wednesday Liturgy of the Word here at school for our whole school community. Lent is a beautifully nourishing time when we are called to reflect prayerfully, repent, and restore our commitment to our Catholic faith and our baptismal commitment. Throughout Lent our students will participate in Stations of the Cross with prayer partners on Fridays. The 14 Stations of the Cross take us prayerfully through Jesus' Passion, from being condemned to death, to His suffering on the cross, to His death and placement in the tomb. Praying the Stations of the Cross puts us in Jesus' shoes, gives us the courage to take up the cross with Him, inspires us to show love to others as God shows love to us, and reminds us of God's triumph over evil. In addition to reflective prayer, our students will participate in service projects as a way to give alms by sharing their time, talent, and treasure. We also encourage our students to do "anonymous acts of love and kindness" during Lent, calling to mind that Jesus never sought recognition or notoriety for the love, kindness, and healing he showed others. Lastly, while our students are not asked to fast or abstain from meat due to their age, we do ask them to think of something they enjoy doing and give it up for 40 days as a sacrifice to God. Last week we sent home a game board of Lenten activities that you may complete as a family. The different activities focus on these concepts of Lent: almsgiving, prayer, fasting, reflection, repentance, and restoration. This week we also kicked off our PTO Read-a-Thon and boy are we off to a tremendous start! Special thanks to Mrs. Carroll, Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Noonan, Mrs. Sproul and our PTO members Mrs. Van Doninck and Mrs. Livecchi for all of their creativity in organizing our Read-a-Thon this year. There are so many fun activities planned over the next several days, so be sure to read through the schedule included below. We encourage you to share our Read-a-Thon fundraiser with friends and family, and encourage your children to read, REad, READ! We appreciate your support of this fundraiser, and we are blown away by your generosity! The numbers are in from our Penny Wars to support Roof Above-Urban Ministry Soup Kitchen. In all we counted 60,851 pennies, 2,670 nickels, 4,204 dimes, and 3,074 quarters for a grand total of $1,931.11. That's 6,659 bowls of soup for the soup kitchen! It was a very close "war", and it was so much fun to watch the grade levels sabotage one another with their silver coins. In the end 1st grade had the most positive pennies remaining after subtracting the silver coins, with 10,884 positive penny points! See the attachment below for a complete overview of our Catholic Schools Week. Huge thank you to Mrs. Roark and her committee of parents who organized all of our CSW events and service projects. And, thank you all for your incredible support of donations, both goods and financial! Lastly we are now accepting applications for kindergarten for next year--be sure to spread the word to friends and neighbors as our seats are limited! Re-enrollment for current families begins in March and will need to be completed by March 31st. You must complete enrollment by this deadline to secure your seat for the 2021-2022 school year. Please refer to the information below regarding enrollment and re-enrollment. It's always busy here at St. Patrick! Have a terrific weekend . . . and be sure to read a good book and complete a gameboard piece for our Lenten spiritual journey! God's Blessings, Amy Tobergte |

EO 180 & EXEMPTION FORM On Wednesday, you received an email from Superintendent Monroe regarding MACS compliance with EO 180. As you know, our current health-safety protocols are working as intended and expected, and our collective diligence has kept our school community healthy and in school thus far. We have successfully prioritized the use of face coverings in developmentally appropriate ways, and in ways which preserve a normal learning experience for our students. Thank you all so very much for partnering with us throughout this ever-evolving journey. At St. Patrick, we have students wear face coverings if they are working collaboratively, if they are moving throughout the school building, or if they are in a situation where they are not able to socially distance. Our students and staff have done an incredible job adhering to these policies. Moving forward, students and staff will be required to wear their face coverings at all times, except for when teachers provide students with breaks from their masks (only when students are socially distanced), during lunch, and during outdoor activities when social distancing is possible. Families may claim an exemption from EO180 by signing and returning the exemption form below; however, the exemption would pertain only to new uses of face coverings. All students will be required to continue to use face coverings in the manner in which we are currently utilizing them. |

BACKGROUND CHECKS & PROTECTING GOD'S CHILDREN Any parent who would like to volunteer in their child's classroom, on field trips, for parties or even come to lunch with their student must have completed Protecting God's Children and a background check. There is a new program for background checks integrated into the Virtus PGC website to make it easier than ever. Just go to Virtus.org and create an account. You will need to select a class and may take the online class. You will then be directed to create an account with Sterling and enter your information for a background check. Once you have completed the PGC class, you are required to keep up to date on monthly bulletins to stay active. Please contact Dawn O'Connor with any questions. | | |

SCHOOL MASS SCHEDULE Please remember to check the calendar and school Mass schedule each week. Students must wear their Mass uniforms on the Fridays that their class goes to Mass. Boys must wear long pants and girls must wear the jumper (K-3) or kilt (4-5). As of now Mass is limited to only our students and staff in that we are asking parents not to attend Mass. We only allow 3 students per pew, and they are spaced out for social distancing. Students are seated with their class, not with prayer partners. The church is sanitized with the aerosolized sanitizing machine before and after Mass, which effectively kills virus and bacteria within 5 minutes of spraying. Masks are optional since the students are socially distanced, but if a parent asks a teacher for their child to wear their mask, we are enforcing that. Only children receiving communion are out of their seats, and they are socially distanced on a kneeler 2 at a time. Father and Deacon sanitize their hands in between each Communion offering, and students are able to take the Host by mouth or by hand. |
