Bee-Bong School, Moombasa, Kenya Our very first scholarship program for children. The end of this year will see the very first set of UAW sponsored children graduate from Grade 3 and go off to the "big school". We are so proud of them. What started as a project supporting less than 15 kids in the neighborhood has grown into a school with over 50 children in just a few years. We are grateful to be part of the project; doing something that truly transforms the lives of people. Bee Bong is also making a name for itself in Mombasa. The consistent financial support from UAW makes it possible for the school to focus on improvements beyond a single room facility and meet the strict guidelines and regulations of the government. We miss our kids dearly and can't wait to visit with them soon. |

Our 7 scholarship recipients are doing well in school and embracing the new rigors of being a student. They all ended the 1st term of school with grades well above average. |
Above: Enjoying the splendor of cultural day with their parents. We are so proud of you! |

2020 Travel Plans Postponed |
Board secretary Aineakho Ojior and Project Director Seye Tesfagy were all geared up to travel to Mombasa, Accra and Lagos to visit our students, in-country project coordinators, lead our annual women's seminar and host family and friends of our 2nd Image graduation ceremony. Sadly, the Coronavirus pandemic has caused all plans to be postponed. This has put a dent in the excitement of our new graduates, however, staying home and staying safe is the priority right now. |

Coronavirus As the world changes before our eyes, the entire UAW team sends you blessings and love during this time of fear and uncertainty. We all need to stay safe, follow state mandates and advice, and most of all stay calm with a courageous attitude. We do not yet know for how long, but we do know that it cannot be forever, so let us begin every day hopeful for respite, hopeful for a cure. All our students are safe and doing well and we will continue to check on them from time to time. Many of them live in developing countries where access to premium medical care is non-existent. Thus, UAW is doing our bit to raise awareness among them by sharing information from the Center for Disease Control in the US. We also want to send a very special Thank You to all the healthcare professionals who are fighting this pandemic on the frontlines. Your sacrifice shall not go unrewarded and we pray for the protection of you and your families. Together we shall overcome! |

SPOTLIGHT on those who support our cause |

Nathalie Beasnael working hard to keep us safe. Thank you!!! Nathalie is an integral part of the UAW core team and volunteers her time endlessly to see that our programs keep running. In addition to being a licensed vocational nurse she is licensed aesthetician. She is the face of The Nathalie B Show, and is fluent in Spanish, French and English. You may catch her interviewing a celebrity on or off the red carpet. Nathalie dreams of eradicating lack of knowledge and encourage more giving and sharing. "Everything begins with our own contribution." |

Wally Bakare, UAW thanks you immensely for your consistent support over the years. Wally is a successful executive and philanthropist. His journey to success as an immigrant in America is truly inspiring. He attributes his achievements to various strangers, family members, and friends that gave him a hand along the way. So it is no wonder that he dedicates his time to giving back through Tilga Scholarships, created in honor of his father and other organizations like Upward African Woman. |
