What a joy to be back to some form of normal. Every part of Walking Woofs is back to full swing, and the dogs are very much back enjoying our services.   All our services can be catered for your pets needs, We offer so much more than the average "dog walk".     We are ready for the autumn weather.... Are you?

THE 5 STAR TITLE

We are thrilled to have been awarded a 5 Star rating for the new doggy day care.  Back in March when we where issued the license from East Devon Council there was no mention of our rating.  Having worked so hard to be able to offer your dogs "the crealy of the canine world" we really are chuffed to bits to have been given the highest rating.   Every activity and enrichment station at the centre has been thought about with the dogs need in mind.  We know the dogs love it but to have the 5 star rating from the Council is just the cherry on top.

Our boarding is also rated 5 stars, but I wont boast about that. (haha). We are currently having some work done in our garden to further improve your dogs stay.  Once complete we will have a larger garden for the dogs to play and relax in, including a shady nook.

Currently the dog walking sector is not regulated, which is a real shame as there are some rogue walkers around.  But we think our photos on Facebook tell you all you need to know about our walking services and what the dogs think of us.  You can always have a read of the reviews to.  Our walks are so much more than just a dog walk. They are true adventures full of enrichment for the dogs.

Feel free to leave a review if you haven't already done so.  We love receiving them.

26 mile hike across Dartmoor  - The first leg

Louise and I chose this years charity effort to be a guided 26 mile hike across Dartmoor for Alzheimer's Society. This has unfortunately been cancelled due to the dreaded CV19. However, we are not the type to let that put a stop to our efforts. So one Saturday last month we pulled out our maps, pulled on our hiking gear and set of to Dartmoor to complete the 1st leg of the hike with 4 dogs in tow.  We devised a nice 14 mile circular route starting in Widecombe in the Moor and taking in 7 tors and a pub lunch.  There may also have been rain storms, lost paths, fern forests and bogs... but over all it was a very enjoyable day.  We will be heading back to Dartmoor soon to finish the 2nd part of 12 miles.  We have a donation pot at the day centre if you would like to donate or you can  do it online here

Thank you very much for all donations. we have raised over £250 so far.

Get Ready for Mud

We do carry portable showers, water and Towels in our vans but with the Ber months now upon us, the wet and mud is inevitable.  Please help us out by leaving a towel out for your dog, bucket of water and sponge even if you so wish, And even better still, invest in a good quality drying coat.

Autumn Hazards

There are many hidden hazards for our pets when out and about, Some to be aware of over the autumn months.

Conker's and Acorns.  These are highly toxic to your dog and can cause stomach problems, vomiting and intestinal blockages.

Blue Green Algae. Very toxic to pets and can kill if digested.  Its around until late autumn and looks like a bluey/green scum on the water.

Antifreeze.  Highly poisonous to pets particularly cats,  Due to its sweet taste its very important to mop up any spills properly.

Time for Fleas

We all know that regular flea treatment is important for your dogs health, but now is the perfect time for giving them a treatment. This will help your dog from having and itchy infestation.  It's also a good idea to treat your home incase any flea eggs are laying ready to hatch.  Flea eggs can be woken up by us turning up the central heating.....

Overweight Dogs

Its no secret that Overweight dogs is a bit of a bug bear of mine.  One thing we have noticed since lock down is that a lot of dogs have gained weight..... and a lot of it in many cases. You as the owner may not have noticed the weight creep on. But please consider the effects this weight gain will have on your dog. His joints.... his organs... his happiness and quality of life. If he's fat on the outside imagine what's surrounding his organs....Do you know what your dog should weigh? And indeed what he weighs now? Check it. No matter the breed, you should be able to feel all of your dogs ribs without a thick layer of fat over them. The chest should also be wider than his abdomen, with a noticeable tuck-up from chest to stomach.

An over weight dog will generally have no waist and no distinction between chest and stomach, he will pant more and seem lazier. So how do you go about getting the pounds off? its simple. Make sure you feed a quality food. Feed less. Much less.... swap the treats for veg and make sure your dog is getting enough quality exercise. Not just a slow mooch about. Always consult your vet if necessary. If you'd like your dog to join our walks to help them shift some pounds then get in touch.

Obesity is the number 1 killer of dogs!!!!

Additionally we are thrilled to be able to offer a weight management drop in clinic on the 26th Sept from 11.45 - 1.45 at the Day centre.   We will have Registered Vet Nurse Donna Green on site. We will weigh your dog and give guidance on the correct weight, plus Donna will be on hand to offer weight and Nutritional advice and come up with a plan for you to help your pet shift the pounds.

This is £5 donation in the charity pot.

 Courses and Workshops

Back when the Day care centre was just a dream, I had a vision of running courses to bring knowledge to dog owners.  I'm so pleased that this is now a reality.  With a bunch of workshops under our belt we can say that they are a huge success.....

Know Your dog inside and out.  - our First workshop, and what a fabulous morning with canine physiotherapist and massage therapist Rebeccah Baylis from Little Green Stables.  So informative and fun. We learnt about canine anatomy and straightness, massage techniques, stress, brain games, stretches and exercises to help your dog. A really super morning and all the dogs where amazing. We even had doggy ice-cream, cake and goodie bags. We have another one booked in for October 31st.

Life Skills For puppies and young dogs - This is our first course, it runs for 7 weeks and we are currently into week 3.  All the puppies are doing fabulously under the watchful eyes of Behaviorist Donna Green.

The start date for the next group is 20th Oct.

Canine First Aid - Ran by a registered Vet nurse, this certificated course is worth its weight in gold.  Team member Chaz has just been on this course and found it very interesting.  We will most definately be holding more in the future.

Puppy Socials

We are delighted at how successful the puppy socials have become.  An idea we had though lock down to enable puppies to be puppies.  Socialise and explore in the safety of the day centre.  We hold these every other Saturday for an hour. they are very relaxed and full of joy.  Just like every other aspect of Walking woofs.  These sessions are the very essence of why we do what we do.  Because we love to see dogs having fun.   Puppy socials are for vaccinated pups to 4 months of age and are £3 charity donation.
