Note from Playschool Teacher Claire Happy August Moon's Nest families! We've been spending summer playschool days picking berries, splashing around in the water (and giving some to our thirsty plant friends!), smelling all the summer smells (mint, roses, sage, basil...), and making ephemeral bits of art to leave in our favorite neighborhood spots. Your amazing kiddos have been teaching me so much about the magic of play; more and more I'm realizing that play, especially when it's embedded in the land, is all about sovereignty and magic, and that wild imagination is essential to social change. I love watching them transform trees into houses, bikes into fire trucks, and their own bodies into dog-bears and dragons. What better way to fully inhabit their own agency and explore the power they have to change the world around them? I love watching them exercise their right to self-determination and choice, spending their hours as they want to spend them, and learning so much about relationships, consent, justice, story, and the natural world along the way. What lovelier path towards full appreciation of the importance of sovereignty for all bodies, communities, and nations--and even the land itself? So grateful to be tending the seeds of revolution and transformation alongside all of you, and so grateful to Miz Flow for creating this magical container! Warmly, Claire |
