Year In Perspective

A Word From The Executive Director

Our second year of operation lead us to new heights in our quest to strengthen and enhance the nonprofit community.  CVA has not only expanded its service delivery to more than 15 clients but has developed new avenues to support our service delivery.

  • NP360 - a comprehensive curriculum designed to educate nonprofit leaders on business acumen while instilling the ever-present need to raise significant resources.

  • Collaboration with KBL Impact Partners

  • Regions Bank Board Series - CVA provided two subject matter experts addressing nonprofit accounting and human resources

  • Project Interface - CVA accepted the second intern from Rockwood School District's student enhancement program during this past summer.

Affecting the nonprofit community in a positive manner is imperative to CVA’s mission and vision. This year’s annual report reflects the hard work of our staff, board, and volunteers who believe in our cause.

Internship

2022 marked the second successful year with Project Interface.  Rockwood School District sponsors aspiring students who are entering their senior year to avail themselves of the St. Louis business market by volunteering their time at local companies.  Community Value Alliance welcomed Andrew Reuve.  Andrew learned about the nonprofit world and his biggest “takeaway” was the importance of nonprofits to sustain a margin.  CVA’s executive director was a mentor to Andrew and invited him to virtual and in-person meetings with other organizations.

Outreach

CVA held its first Lunch and Learn, “Integrating Margin & Mission” at Regions Bank’s Clayton office on November 9th.  Rachel facilitated this session by discussing the need to accelerate positive impact on our community and blend business solutions with philanthropic values. Creating a sustainable business plan while maintaining the mission is imperative to the future success of any organization.

The well-attended session highlighted the following people and organizations:

  • HealthWorks

  • Love Like Jackson

  • Trailnet

  • Voyce St. Louis

  • Pete Wyatt

  • Chris Claus

  • Cindy Mense

  • Vera Jones

Attended and hosted tables at two Biz Expos in St. Charles Convention Center. The St. Louis Business Expo is the largest business-to-business trade show in Missouri. Rachel presented at the Creve Coeur-Olivette Chamber of Commerce, and as a member of Association of Fundraising Professionals, sponsored a table at the region’s conference — "Elevate, Taking Fundraising to New Heights.”

Corporate Partners

CVA was privileged to host the First Annual Corporate Partner Luncheon recognizing amazing companies wishing to be a part of making a difference for the nonprofit community. The special luncheon was held on September 14th at Des Peres Lodge where the following companies gathered to share their nonprofit experiences and receive awards for their untiring interest in strengthening the St. Louis nonprofit community.

“Both Rachel and Bernie have been invaluable in the help they have provided in helping us form it, ensuring that we are compliant with all our paperwork, handbook etc, offering us guidance on many aspects of running it including fund raising, and helped us hire an Executive Director, in a remarkably short span of time.”

In Memoriam

James H. Canada (1954-2022)

Jim enjoyed a wonderful career and is most well-known for his networking capability and his attention to his fellow man.  Jim believed in “servant leadership,” and this belief allowed him to be successful throughout his life. His family has asked that recognition of Jim and his works be memorialized through special donations to Community Value Alliance, (CVA).  Jim founded this organization in 2017, and it was operationalized in 2020 with the help of him, his co-founders, and Executive Director Rachel Covington.  In just 2 years, CVA developed into a nonprofit dedicated to strengthening the non-profit community to affect change and make a difference to those who are disadvantaged in our society.

While we grieve for his untimely passing from this earth, we acknowledge his most recent passion, Community Value Alliance.  The Canada family and close friends have started a fund to honor his legacy.

The Jim Canada Memorial Fund will provide CVA with the assistance to strengthen the nonprofit community.  The St. Louis nonprofit community comprises 14,000 registered organizations dedicated to helping those who are vulnerable and disadvantaged.  Lending support and expertise to dedicated organizations will result in strengthening disadvantaged populations.

If you are inclined to consider a meaningful donation to Community Value Alliance and The Jim Canada Memorial Fund, please contact Rachel Covington at rachel.covington@cvastl.org or go to the CVA website at: https://www.cvastl.org/donate
