Having just wrapped up this fantastic show, we wanted to reach out and thank the family and all those who came to see this amazing collection over the last couple of weeks.
Bringing together artworks produced over nearly 60 years this solo exhibition celebrated the extraordinarily imaginative and mystical work of one of Gloucestershire's leading artists of his generation.
While he may have counted high profile collectors such as Andrew Lloyd Webber and Victor Pasmore among his clients, and is best known for the striking cover of Mike’s Oldfield’s album, ‘Crises’, Gloucester-born Terry Ilott preferred in his words, “to work in obscurity”.
Terry Ilott, who passed away in 2019, was best known for his depiction of apocalyptic scenes. His paintings, featuring masked mystery figures and burning cityscapes have a prophetic quality and are eerily reminiscent of some of the real “crises” of our modern times.
Although a few of his unique paintings are in private collections, most of his work had never been shown and it was a real honour to host such an exhibition.
