On Saturday, May 22, the Junior Women’s League of Smithfield held their 6th annual Big Night Out as a virtual reverse raffle fundraiser to benefit Riverside Ranch of Clayton, a therapeutic equine facility that serves children with physical and developmental disabilities, veterans, and senior adults. With the proceeds from the event, the League was able to present Riverside Ranch a check for $15,000 to help fund the construction of a permanent structure with a meeting space for counselors, riding instructors and families, as well as an accessible bathroom. In addition to the Community Impact Grant awarded by JWL, two of the BNO Reverse Raffle grand prize winners donated their $1,000 in winnings to Riverside Ranch, bringing the total donated to $17,000. |

Provisional Members Complete Projects to Benefit Johnston County Foster Children and Senior Adults Each year, our provisional members, which are members in their first year of service, work together on projects that fulfill the mission of the Junior Women's League of Smithfield. This year, two groups of provisionals planned and executed two projects with support from the community. |
Fostering with Dignity Through a collaborative effort of fundraising and donation collections by the Junior Women's League of Smithfield's Provisional Members, Fostering with Dignity was able to provide more than 260 duffle bags along with personal items for children when they enter foster care in Johnston County. By promoting awareness of the county’s foster care population and their needs, they also received clothing donations which will be used to provide children in foster care with a clothing closet. Thank you to everyone who has supported this project and their effort to bring a sense of dignity and belonging to children and adolescents during a time of chaos and separation in their lives. |

Adopt a Golden Angel JWL's provisional members from the Adopt A Golden Angel project provided 150 caddies to residents of Barbour Court Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Over the past year, long term care facilities have been hit especially hard; in North Carolina, there were 50,476 COVID cases and 5,009 deaths within the 710 facilities affected. With that in mind, these Provisional Members were determined to meet the needs of elderly individuals residing in Barbour Court. Provisional members raised funds, collected donated items, and sewed 150 caddies for seniors' wheelchairs and walkers that they filled with a variety of items to provide comfort and stimulation for the recipients. |
