This quarter's message may look a little different as I decided to switch email newsletter providers. The new one allows me to include video links, which is nice. In fact, I have a NEW YouTube video and two tiny paintings to share with you this month. |

NEW YouTube Video! Processes of the Masters - Part 3 I finally finished PART THREE of my new YouTube series on the Oil Painting Processes of the Masters. This exciting 3-part series looks at seven of the world’s best oil painters from history and examines how each laid down their paint layers to create their masterpieces. Part three covers three amazing artists who were all contemporaries of one another, but whose styles varied significantly. American artist, James McNeill Whistler, was one of the most influential of the avant-garde painters in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. John Singer Sargent painted stylistic portraits of some of the biggest names of his time, and William Bouguereau was one of the most renown artists in Western Europe during his lifetime. Art of the Piedmont Exhibit I had hoped to get this message out before this year's Art of the Piedmont exhibit in May, but it just wasn't in the cards. It was a great show, as always, and I was happy to see the painting above sell to a happy client! |

New Artwork I haven't really been painting lately other than two small palette knife pieces ... just for fun. Hopefully, I'll have formal work complete before the next message. |

Mini Floral II (5 x 7, oil on panel) Continuing with the palette knife floral concept I posted in the last newsletter - this one features magnolia buds. |
|
|
Mini Floral III (5 x 7, oil on panel) The third in this little series is an interpretation of poppies. These pieces are so refreshing. In researching for my latest video, I read that John Singer Sargent recommended that his students paint flowers in order to stay fresh. The punch of color and beauty they provide really does encourage the creative mind. |
