This month we also have a Grey Lynn & Around Recover Survey which we urge you to fill out as we gather information on how you are doing, how you coped these past 7 weeks, and what you need from us (and others) next to support you recover.  This will be coming to your inboxes in a seperate email later this week and we’ll be collating the results and reflecting back to everyone to monitor the moment.

 

And of course, there’s local news and updates too. The Newsletter will be on our website plus there will be articles posted in Ponsonby News, not to mention our upcoming helpful Business Seminars and Events.... But first things first.

After going hard and fast, we've had tremendous success as a nation in paving the path toward eliminating the coronavirus. How we've come together to face this crisis as a country shows how quickly we can make changes for the collective good. We have a lot to be very proud of! Thanks to the collective efforts of medical professionals tackling COVID-19, essential workers, and the cooperation of the general public, local businesses are gradually getting back to a new normal.

During LEVEL 2 businesses are following the advised safety protocols including hand sanitiser and physical distancing. :

City Botanics is a specialist garden design studio, focusing on landscaping in small (and tiny!) garden spaces across the city.

 

They believe that gardens and plants can heal and provide a sense of calm in today's chaotic world. With all the recent upheaval in our lives, we could all do with a little greenery to soothe the soul and mind!

 PAPATUANUKU 

the Urban Flora and Fauna Trail.

 

This years’ Artweek Auckland 2020 (October 12-20) will bring life to the city over a week-long festival of installations, late night events, art and food fun, and of course gallery viewings galore.

At Grey Lynn & Around we are excited to announce our own event during Artweek 2020.

We want to support everyone in the hood to get involved and regain connections and confidence through creativity and a common celebration.

 

We invite artists to create Artworks that capture the essence and values of Grey Lynn,  communicating a statement of environmental awareness and caring. Entries will be open to  Entries will be open to schools, and artists of all ages. Artworks can be indoor and outdoor and will be displayed on Papatuanuku Urban Flora and Fauna Trail as well as in local retail shops and cafes, bars and restaurants.

 

We want to reinforce Grey Lynn as an urban neighbourhood with a focus on encouraging social, ecological, and economic health and vitality and environmental awareness.

 The Artworks must align with our vision for thriving business to enable flourishing communities. Sustainability is at the heart of our business and community.

We're looking for a local artist to design a poster to help us promote this event and in return, they have the chance to win $1000! There are specifications that must be met in order to enter and all entries must be submitted by COB on the 2nd June.

THANKS TO LANDLORD SIR MICHAEL FREIDLANDER

Welcome news for many Grey Lynn tenants.Landlord Sir Michael Freidlander cuts many Auckland tenants' rent by 80 per cent.


Grey Lynn tenants praised the business established by Sir Michael Friedlander, saying not only was his rent cut by "thousands" but he knew of others who enjoyed the same benefits.

 

Jacob Faull, of the organic clothing and products shop Nature Baby at 423 Richmond Rd in West Lynn, said: "They've been amazing. It was just what we needed. The architecture they develop is amazing, any time we have a problem they fix it up."

HELP Q GET THROUGH

The beautiful independent Q Theatre need your help to raise $150,000. We know many Grey Lynn locals have loved spending time watching magic happen on their stages.They've been hit hard by COVID-19 and since heading into lockdown have lost 85% of their income as well as most of the events they had lined up for the year.

Q Theatre have a huge battle on their hands to fully reopen again in 2021 and they can't do it alone. Visit

AUCKLAND WATER RESTRICTIONS

In response to one of the most severe droughts in Auckland’s history, Watercare have introduced mandatory water restrictions across the Auckland region from Saturday 16 May.

 

Stage 1 essentially means no outdoor hoses are to be used and this may affect your business. Visit Watercare for full information on these restrictions.
