EMAIL #2! We have had some technical difficulties lately. Printers going offline, ethernet boxes going out, and just last week, our. website wasn't working properly. Since we build our monthly email through our website, it turns out that not everything saved correctly! Hopefully, we will be bug-free this week. But here is the actual email for June and July. Thank you! |

Summer Reading is here! With school out, we've been extra busy at the library and enjoying all of the hustle and bustle. As always, we have an extremely busy schedule at the library which means that there is always something for everyone. It also means that we're trying to economize everything we do, so this edition of our newsletter is for June AND July! We have also started our meetings for the Millstadt Community Theater. We hope everyone had a wonderful Father's Day and that you all have a great Fourth of July with family and friends. The library will be closed in observance of Independence Day, but we'll be open on July 3rd and July 5th. Read on to see some of our June and July goings-on and highlights! |

Another fun part of our Summer Reading and Activity Program or SRAP are our Field Trips. Every Thursday during our program, we visit a Millstadt business at 10 a.m. to learn about the business, those who run them, and how a career in that industry could look for our library learners. Angie of Millstadt Carpet taught our Library Learners all about flooring options and how each person has a job in a house or at any job site to complete a task. Then, Dena of Bolt & Cupp Boutique taught our Library Learners about beautifying ourselves and our town by dressing mannequins and painting rocks to hide in the park. RSVP the Thursday before by visiting the event page or by contacting the library. |

At our June Board Meeting, we honored our Yes Committee who had worked tirelessly on the library's annexation referendum with a plaque. It reads; From Fall 2021 to Summer 2022, the Millstadt Library District embarked on a journey to annex the Millstadt School District to not only serve an unserved portion of our community, but to give our entire community access to a new, much needed library space. This campaign spanned months of ups and downs and triumphs and tribulations. Although the annexation referendum failed at the June 2022 election, it was not unsuccessful. The library was able to rally a group of dedicated supporters and to solidify a new reputation for itself – one that spoke of its mission to be open to ideas, open to community, and open to every single person. And most importantly, it put action into those words. We will forever be grateful to those who supported and continue to support our library and mission. We honor those who went above and beyond to make our efforts possible here. The American Library Association and their initiative, Libraries Transforming Communities, had a grant available to help libraries be more accessible to certain audiences. Thanks to our friends at Trinity Services, the Millstadt Autism Foundation, and the Illinois Center for Autism, we were awarded $20,000.00 to make that a possibility. With those funds, we plan to input an automatic door and signage to make items easier to find. Our main focus, however, will be the classes we plan on presenting to the community on Autism. With the help of Trinity Services, we will be hosting classes on several topics to help families and friends better understand and care for their loved ones and neighbors. We aim to record these classes and have them available online as a virtual resource. To ensure that we are providing the classes that our community wants and needs and at times and days that work for them, we'd appreciate your help in answering this survey. Please forward it to those you know it would be beneficial to - they do not have to live in Millstadt or the Millstadt area to attend these classes. You can learn more about the grant and the other libraries selected here. |
