Chamber Music with Clarinet!

Dear friends,

This August 17 we have a real treat in store for you at ChamberFest Brown County: we can't wait to welcome clarinetist Andrea Levine, pianist Futaba Niekawa, soprano Catherine Compton, violinst Lei Hou and cellist John Sharp for an evening of chamber music centered around the clarinet!

The concert, entitled "Clarinet Transformations," will feature a colorful program of Beethoven, Schubert and Schonfield and will take place at the Nashville United Methodist Church at 7 pm. Check out the full program here.

Clarinetist Andrea Levine is currently principal clarinetist at the Louisville Orchestra in Kentucky, and has also performed with the Detroit, Cleveland, and Cincinnati orchestras. Here is what she had to say about the upcoming concert at ChamberFest:

"I am beyond thrilled to be playing such a rich and varied program. The Schubert and Beethoven pieces are longtime favorites of mine. I have not performed the Schoenfeld before, but have always wanted to. I am so grateful for the opportunity to perform it with some of my favorite musicians and people." - Andrea Levine

Pianist Futaba Niekawa has maintained close ties with our festival ever since its founding in 2020. Currently on the collaborative piano faculty at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, we're delighted to welcome her back to ChamberFest this August:

"I’m very excited to come back and connect with the warm audience in Brown County! The characteristic of each piece on the program is wildly contrasting, showcasing sounds from Classical to Klezmer, with both the piano and clarinet bringing them together. I’m grateful for the collaboration with amazing artists and looking forward to sharing the music." - Futaba Niekawa

Soprano Catherine Compton is a passionate performer and educator who is currently an Associate Instructor of Voice at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music. She will be performing Schubert's moving "Shepherd on the Rock" this summer at ChamberFest:

"It is a joy to take part in bringing a beloved work, “Shepherd on the Rock,” to ChamberFest Brown County! One of Schubert’s last compositions before his untimely death, he never heard it performed. I am always moved by how profoundly this work explores loneliness, longing and, ultimately, hope."

- Catherine Compton

In addition to Catherine, Futaba and Andrea, Wednesday's program will also feature two members of the world-famous Chicago Symphony Orchestra: its principal cellist John Sharp and violinist Lei Hou. Stay tuned for more information about these extraordinary artists on the next issue of our newsletter!
