some thoughts for may

helping you be productive & well

I’ve got celebrating on my mind! With my circle of family and friends now fully vaccinated I’ve been excitedly making plans. It definitely feels like I’m finally basking in the light at the end of that dark tunnel. Pure joy.

What am I celebrating? Both of my daughters are graduating - one from high school and the other from college - each with in-person commencement.  The icing on the Costco graduation cake is that all my children will be home and together under one roof for the first time in a year and a half!

As if my personal reasons for celebrating aren’t enough (they are), I also have some exciting professional news to celebrate and share with you. The Disintegrating Student: Struggling but Smart, Falling Apart, and How to Turn It Around will be released on July 27! It’s available to pre-order now at your favorite place to buy books. This means a much wider reach and audience for the conversation around our high-stakes achievement culture. With the launch of an updated book there had to be a launch of an updated website so I invite you to visit jeanninejannot.com to learn more.

Enough about me, what you are celebrating? Big and small. Maybe you have graduate in your house? Maybe you’re celebrating your kids just making it through this exhausting, difficult year? Or perhaps your joy comes from the return of something (or someone) you’ve desperately missed?  Whatever it is I hope it brings moments of joy, gratitude, and light to your life.

It's also the one-year anniversary of my Some Thoughts newsletter and, like so much in life, it’s been a work in progress.  I’m enjoying the journey and I’m grateful you’re sharing it with me!

Be well. Be safe. Be hopeful.

Note: If you find yourself struggling to find joy in past pleasures consider discussing your concerns with your primary care physician.

“Life is too short not to celebrate nice moments!”

FEATURED BOOK

I've been anxiously awaiting for the release of Your Turn: How to Be an Adult by Julie Lythcott-Haims. While her first book, How to Raise an Adult, served as a manifesto for modern day parenting, Your Turn is the ultimate guide for young adults who are facing the daunting task of "adulting" in today's culture.

Perfect for any young adult - particularly a new graduate who may benefit from having access to this wise and compassionate advice.

Check out her conversation about Your Turn on episode 34 of the Ask Lisa Podcast.

I wrote The Disintegrating Student to provide an  updated roadmap to navigate the daunting journey through today's high-stakes, high-stress achievement culture. My goal is to start conversations between students, parents, educators and other stakeholders to be more astute at recognizing the early signs of struggle and intervene before students fall apart.
