Interview vom 11. Dezember 2020 mit Grace und Rovie.
Interviewer: Patricia
I would be great if you could introduce yourself shortly:
Grace: I am a social worker for almost three years now. Before I got my work here at Navacopah, I used to work for the government. I used to work with children that were abused, and I tried to help them to cope with their problems.
Rovie: At Navacopah, I am the cook. I love cooking. That's why I enjoy what I'm doing.
What does Navacopah mean to you and to the society in Palawan?
Grace: Navacopah is an organisation that supports and helps the children in the community. So that is what I am doing. The port is a place that supports children in schooling but also helps them improve and express themselves. To realize they are loved in this world and that they are special even though they are having some hard times because they are not rich and don’t have enough food to eat. That’s why Navacopah helps them and supports them, especially with schooling and school supplies so that even though their family can't send them to school they can still continue the studies and reach their dreams someday.
Rovie: Navacopah is like a generous heart. It is a blessing for us. Navacopah gave us a shelter, and to everybody in our community. Navacopah share their blessing that they have and they take care of people. They give a home to children. Navacopah gives hope to the children here and that every child or youth here can grow and is supported to develop their own talent and what makes them special.
Do you celebrate Christmas at the Port and if you do so, is there any
tradition that you normally do?
Grace: Yes, we celebrate Christmas here in Navacopah. We have Christmas activities and a celebration for the children and their families. We prepare small gifts for them. Traditionally, we spend Christmas with our whole family and have a meal all together with everyone.
Rovie: We prepare food like spaghetti and chicken. That is a typical Filipino dish. We have also Queso on our table for the noche buena. And we all come together with the family. And we cook for our family and the extended family (extended family is the whole community and all neighbors).
