Connecting in the Gardens ......
To all of our readers - please stay safe, stay healthy.
Please stay in touch (at least 6' away!) with neighbors, friends and family that
need support. Please stay home as much as possible. Please envision how we can, together, come out of this all in one peace,
for the betterment of all species and our Mother Earth.
And yes, this strange time is a great time to work in any garden that needs tending,
and also an opportunity to learn more about pollinators and pollinator plants!
Check out our Resources list of plants, sources, books, and articles for starters. And if you have a favorite article and/or book, or two, that aren't on our list,
do let us know!

Walking the Talk .... Planting the Plants - Part 2
Last issue, we shared a photo of our new frontscape
at our office. Here, we'd like to take a moment and thank everyone who
contributed to making this garden happen. Because without this support,
no matter how small, we wouldn't be where we are today.
Enjoy the transformation in the photo album on our website,
and take a moment to appreciate everyone in our Gratitude Card below.

Please enjoy this, the first of Patrice's journal!
A Monthly Journal About the Plants in Our Garden
at The Pollination Place
by Patrice Hanlon
The creative energies of a gardener transforming a piece of land is similar to
the artist beginning with a blank canvas. Seeing how each season unfolds with
new discoveries is an ongoing joy.
Each month I will write about a few of the blooming plants in the garden,
the bees associated with the plants, what families they come from and a
few ethnobotanical information because I love the stories plants tell us.
The pollinator garden is not just for pollinators - As John Muir famously said, "When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the universe.” A pollinator garden is a habitat garden. With the first tending
of the soil, the healing process for the land begins - soil organisms awaken,
insects, butterflies, birds, .... read more

Steaming -- with Happiness!
What if there is finally a better way to deal with weeds - the nuisance ones,
as well as the invasives like blackberries?
We think we found it - 212 degree water!
We are thrilled to know Jeremy and Jim of Chem-Free, a company that is
now providing pesticide-free weed eradication services.
Enjoy this video compiled by our friend Wanda Borland, producer at RVTV, to see the weed steamer in action.
Now it is 'just' a matter of getting every municipality and school system
in Oregon to transition to this safe and effective method!
Please visit Non Toxic Southern Oregon on Facebook

Events and Presentations
Not surprisingly (and thankfully) the events we normally attend at the beginning
of each year have been cancelled. But we will miss seeing old friends and
making new ones at these events.
Our hearts go out to the organizers of these amazing community celebrations:
* Rogue Valley Earth Day at Scienceworks
* Jackson County Master Gardeners Association Spring Garden Fair at the Expo
* Rogue Community College Earth Day Celebration
* Southern Oregon University Earth Day Celebration
* Growing Pollinator Gardens at the Medford Library
As of now, these upcoming events are still on, but could very well be rescheduled.

We are super excited about this class! We'll celebrate the beginning of Oregon Native Plant Appreciation Week (April 26-May 2) by learning how to counter invasive plants with native plants for the benefit of local pollinators, wildlife,
and native plant conservation.
With two instructors! Barb Mumblo was a US Forest Service botanist for the Siskiyou Mountains Ranger District for 28 years, winning awards for her work on invasive species. Suzie Savoie is co-owner of both Siskiyou Ecological Services and Klamath-Siskiyou Native Seeds.

Lights, Action....
We need to replace the old, buzzing (not like a bee!) fluorescent ceiling lights
in our office. Might you know an electrician who wants to show our work in a good light, and give us a good deal? We are also looking for a goose-neck light or
torchiere floor lamp. We would appreciate the gift!

Here's your Soap!
We love having Caryn and her team at Essential 3 Aromatherapy Solutions
as our neighbor. Our office always smells so delightful!
Now we have yet another reason - their brand new Wash Wash Wash liquid soap
is the best ever! With sunflower oil, rosemary, lavender and more,
the pollinators love it too!
Kristina says, "This soap makes my hands feel clean - and lovely! And it takes
just a drop to make a lather."
Order online, and stay safe!

Pollinators' Pick
Are you familiar with the work of Dr. Doug Tallamy yet?
If not, here is your opportunity! A Professor of Entomology at the University of Delaware, Dr. Tallamy is changing hearts, minds, and landscapes across the country. This video of his excellent presentation to the California Native Plant Society will start you on your journey to save the world.
Enjoy!
