Hello again, and hello mid-June! It is truly unnerving how quickly these warmer months fly by! This month’s newsletter is chock-full of unique and delicious gift ideas for Dad (or just for you, as lets face it I want all of these items for myself), classic summer wardrobe staples, a curated selection vintage finds and other marvelous additions for those forgotten corners of the home that may need a quirky little ‘pick me up’.
In my two previous newsletters I touched upon the idea of reveling in the ordinary, while also taking a more relaxed approach to how we decorate our homes and the rooms, the important stories of our lives unfold in. I thought it might be nice to expand upon this theme by talking about what I have started to call “the echo-chamber of sameness”. The importance of finding out what feels good to us, as individuals, in our own unique living spaces, and allowing that, and not what is currently trending, to dictate how we decorate our spaces.
This means more than just figuring out what colours you want to paint the walls of your home. I ask you to delve deeper. To examine what types of art, furniture, fabrics, pottery, books, movies, music, etc., really make you stop and think. What engages you, what evokes a positive emotional response? I think these are really important and valuable questions that are far too often overlooked and replaced with a “live, laugh, love” wooden sign, slapped above the sofa or a scenic print that carries no sentiment, but acts as an indifferent, inoffensive, placeholder.
Embrace what makes you tick, explore what reflects your family and the narrative of your life. Hold onto what holds meaning; seek out what encourages contemplation, conversation and joy. Expand upon it & let you freak flag fly!
Enjoy & Happy June everyone,
& as always, thank you for being here!
