Dear CCCHS Members,

It looks like we have a guest list of over 80 people to celebrate our Rose Cologne Volunteers at next Wednesday’s Membership Picnic. If you haven’t already RSVP’d, please complete this form by May 31st. There is no cost to attend, but we want to help Calvary Church volunteers in planning our picnic lunch!

The tributes for each of this year’s volunteers are now available on our facebook page and website too! I would also like to take a moment to thank our Rose Cologne Committee. Even without a dinner this year, the committee has invested so much time and energy to make this event memorable for our volunteers. Co-chairs Heather Moran and Renae Shunk, Brenda Kim, Kendra Gettig, Cori Kalupson, and Holly Torbic all deserve a round of applause. I would also like to thank Bailey from Calvary Church for his volunteer time to edit our tribute video, Carolyn Donaldson for recording our tributes, and Avant Garden for donating flowers for this year’s event!

Enjoy a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend and we’ll see you on Wednesday!

Pennsylvania Council on Independent Living (PCIL)

News Release

On April 18, 2022, disability advocates and Independent Living Centers filed a cutting edge Amicus Brief with the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in support of people with disabilities and their civil rights to receive long-term care services in the most integrated setting. The brief further objects to the gross over-use of guardianship under state law for disabled and older individuals, and the failure to apply widely available alternatives to guardianship.

Among recommendations from last year’s Fourth National Guardianship Summit - Maximizing Autonomy and Assuring Accountability - was a recommendation that “States should adopt and implement the Uniform Guardianship, Conservatorship, and Other Protective Arrangements Act (Uniform Act). While there are states that follow the recommendations, Pennsylvania is not one of them.

You can read the full news release here: PCIL News Release

If you are interested in hearing more about these ongoing civil rights violations, please contact Misty Dion at (570) 367-6269.
