Characterize the connectivity and the ecological quality of forest and riparian ecosystems

André Fonseca is PhD Student at the University of Lisbon "Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA), Centro de Estudos Florestais (CEF)" and works on the CERES project.

A study developed by the ISA partner, under the framework of CERES project, evaluated the habitat quality of Riparian Ecological Infrastructures (REIs) and their potential for the provision of Ecosystem Services (ES) in human-dominated landscapes. The study was developed in the Mediterranean pilot areas of the CERES project, in the margins of the rivers Tagus and Sorraia, in central Portugal, and covered three types of landscapes matrices: Intensive agriculture, Extensive agriculture and Forest production.

The fundación CESEFOR is involved in the CERES project and one of the action they are carrying out is dedicated to improve the ecological conectivty and the quality of the habitats of the brown bear (Ursus arctos) one of Europe's most endangered mammals which is under strict protection for more than three decades.

The video shootings continue on the project territories

One of the actions of the project aims to raise awareness of the issues related to ecological connectivity and to do this, what better way than through explanatory videos. Five videos are currently being produced
