Update
We look forward to the Dallas District Attorney’s office presenting the cases with amended death certificates to the Grand Jury. We understand additional indictments will not have an impact on trying the serial killer; he will not be tried for each individual homicide. However, we do firmly believe it is important he is charged and held accountable for each homicide.
We continue to support the Bixler family as they work to achieve justice for their mother, Marilyn Bixler. As of this writing, her cause of death is “undetermined after scene investigation”. The Bixler family is owed a continued investigation confirming the facts of how their mother died and holding the murderer accountable for her death. This case must not fall through any more cracks in the system.
We received an overview of three bills State Senator Nathan Johnson is working on for the upcoming Texas Legislative Session beginning January 12, 2021.
Proposal One – Let the state certify establishments so we know they have put into place the recommended safety standards. Monitor entrances. ID all visitors. Employee background checks. Cooperation with law enforcement. Accountability and transparency.
Proposal Two – Protect seniors from leases that limit their options. No forced arbitration. Employee background checks. No penalties for employees who should be required to speak with law enforcement and social workers. Hold establishments liable for violating these simple, cost-free, tax-free safety standards.
Proposal Three – Enforce current state regulations on shops that buy and resale jewelry. Fund agency to oversee compliance and make shops that buy and resell jewelry adhere to existing regulations. The lack of compliance contributed to the length and scale of the killing spree.
These proposals will not add an undue or unfair burden on senior living establishments. These proposals will ensure improved transparency and accountability.
