the weekly Round-Up

Hello!

So...we need to talk about The White Lotus!  Have you watched the hit TV series from HBO about a fictional luxury resort in Hawaii that was filmed during COVID at the Four Seasons Maui? Read our take on why the show is so haunting for hoteliers and comment or reply to this email! Desperate to know what you think.

Here are other news stories you need to know about from this week:

  • Why nations that fail women fail.  An essay in the Economist details why nations that have equality for women are more stable and suggests that policymakers should study geopolitics through the prism of sex.  Worth a read or you can listen to the article through this link.
  • People are booking Christmas vacations earlier than ever before.  CNBC takes a deep dive into the consumer trends impacting holiday travel: vaccinations, FOMO and cites data showing Delta has not impacted bookings.
  • The UK is easing travel protocols for vaccinated travelers from the US and other "non-red" countries. The UK travel industry got a big boost on Friday from this news which will simplify international travel from October 4.

Listen Up:  Kara Goldin, Founder & CEO of Hint water, interviews entrepreneurs, disruptors, and change-makers for interesting discussions of how they overcame long odds on the road to start-up success. I'm currently reading her book, "Undaunted: Overcoming Doubts and Doubters," which is excellent, so far.  My favorite is her quote about how starting a business is like "building a plane while flying it."  Let me know what you think!

If you missed it, hertelier was featured by the Cornell University SC Johnson School of Business! Please CLICK HERE to read about the community YOU are helping to build for women in lodging!
