Calling All Researchers!

If any faculty has a research opportunity available for students or know any students looking for a research opportunity, please reach out to our program office so that we can assist in coordinating a match for the project. The RCTH team can be reached at rcth@uscmed.sc.edu.

Highlights

Congratulations to Dr. Kevin Bennett, PhD., Director of the Research Center for Transforming Health, on being selected as one of the presenters at the 2020 NRHA Rural Health Annual Conference. He, along with Dr. Elizabeth Crouch, presented on "The Rural-Urban Differences in Factors for Successful Aging Among LGBT Individuals".

If you or your department would like to highlight a faculty, staff, or student, please send the information to our program office at rcth@uscmed.sc.edu.

SOM Virtual Poster Session

Thank you to all the students and faculty that submitted presentations for the first SOM Virtual Poster session hosted by the Research Center for Transforming Health. Also thank you to everyone that viewed/commented on the presentations!

If you missed a presentation or would like to view them again, they can be found here.

Palmetto Profiles is Live!

Palmetto Profiles is a research networking and expertise tool to help connect researchers to others with the expertise they may need. It not only shows traditional directory information, but also illustrates how each person is connected to others in the broad research community. This tool is currently used by researchers at MUSC and Clemson.

Through a collaborative effort between the Research Center for Transforming Health and the department of Research and Graduate Education, Palmetto Profiles now includes all UofSC School of Medicine faculty. Use of this tool will enhance the visibility of faculty on search engines, and supports the identification of potential collaborators, researchers, experts, and mentors.

All profiles have been auto-populated with your departmental information, including your publications, using Medline and PubMed. We encourage everyone to log in, using your UofSC main campus credentials, to review, edit, and expand your profiles today! This will allow others to find you more easily, as well as identify those who you could connect with.

SOAR

SOAR Seminars

Due to the current COVID-19 conditions, the SOAR seminars have been held virtually this year. The seminars are still open to all students and faculty who wish to attend.

There is one more session scheduled for July 15th at 11:00 am titled "Presenting Research". Please contact our program office at SOAR@uscmed.sc.edu to be added to the calendar invite.

To view the past sessions from this year, they can be found here on the SOAR School of Medicine Library Guide.

New Opportunities

Grant Peer Review

Grant proposal review prior to submission is an important component of successful grant submissions. The RCTH is now supporting an internal peer review program for UofSC School of Medicine and Columbia VA investigators.

Investigators can gain valuable feedback of their proposals from fellow experienced investigators. Proposals (or proposal sections) will be reviewed using categories similar to NIH peer review and reviewers will provide feedback on strengths and weaknesses.

Requests for peer review can be submitted online (GPR Request Form) , or for more information about the Grant Peer Review program email the RCTH at rcth@uscmed.sc.edu.
