Many folks are interested in learning more about how to practice allyship. In particular, our campus community has expressed interest in learning more about allyship to trans, intersex and asexual communities. Below we have highlighted some suggestions for allyship, as well as some general tips: Recognize the diversity of trans & genderqueer lives.

In my experience as a gay man surrounded by generally decent human beings, I've encountered a lot of straight and cisgender people who identify as "allies" to the LGBT community. This is never a bad thing - I spend most of my life in situations where I'm outnumbered by straight people.

 

First Friday Forum, June 7th

Collaborative Divorce to Partner with Clients, Families, and Communities

 

Divorce and separation are legal, financial, and family change events. This forum will provide an overview of how Collaborative Team Practice (CTP) differs from other divorce/separation processes for whom CTP is likely to be effective. It will also address red flags for when this process may not be appropriate.

Lunch & Learn, June 14th

Working with Interpreters in Mental Health: Doing Therapy in Slow Motion

 

This discussion will cover multiple aspects of work with interpreters in Mental Health including definition of roles, responsibilities and issues of hierarchy in mental health encounters. It will explore the effects of employing interpreters on dynamics of mental health encounters, including a balance of pacing and leading.
